Bass Lake Campground Lessee Seeks Clarification on Contract Terms
Park Board Notes Improvements at Bass Lake Beach
The progress of maintenance and capital improvements at the Bass Lake Beach were reviewed with lessee Richard Callahan when the Starke County Park Board convened last evening. Callahan was accompanied by his legal counsel, David Wallsmith. Callahan reported that 10 tons of sand and 10 tons of asphalt grindings has been spread to improve the grounds and that 45 picnic tables had been repaired. Continue reading
Bass Lake Beach Equipped With Proper Safety Equipment
The Bass Lake Beach was cited after the county sanitarian conducted an inspection on Thursday, June 27 and found they lacked the proper safety equipment to remain operational. The sanitarian told the owners of the business that they would have to purchase the necessary equipment before reopening. County Health Nurse Frank Lynch told WKVI that another inspection was conducted the next morning and they found that the beach had been equipped with the proper items, such as a life ring, spine board and shepherd’s hook for rescue operations. The beach was then allowed to reopen.
ISBH Inspector to Visit Bass Lake Campground
An inspector from the Indiana State Board of Health will soon be visiting the Bass Lake Beach and Campground, according to Starke County Sanitarian Chris Dalton. Dalton told the county commissioners this week that he had inspected the beach not too long ago and noticed a few minor problems, such as weeds growing near the beach, bathrooms suffering from structural issues, rusty water, and other issues. He said he had been out to the business in the past to deal with complaints of garbage laying around and unsanitary bathrooms, but the owners have been good at fixing up what Dalton points out.
Bass Lake Beach is Open!
It’s Memorial Day weekend and that means the Bass Lake Beach is once again open! The beach officially opened yesterday, just in time for the holiday weekend as people flock to Bass Lake to enjoy the quarter-mile of beach and the campsite just across the road.
Starke County Commissioners Discuss Bass Lake Beach Issues
The Starke County Commissioners this week discussed a number of issues with the Bass Lake Beach that need rectified. Commissioner Dan Bridegroom told his fellow commissioners that he had gotten in touch with one of the owners and expressed his concerns with the beach.
Bass Lake Man Dies in Motorcycle Accident
A Bass Lake man died Wednesday after being injured in a motorcycle accident.
Officers from the Starke County Sheriff’s Department determined that William (Bill) Wagner, 55, was on State Road 10 just west of the Bass Lake Beach and went left of center just prior to the start of a curve. The motorcycle then went into a ditch, struck a raised driveway causing it to go airborne. The motorcycle landed on the front wheel and the back went airborne. The driver and the motorcycle then hit a tree.
