A number of plea and sentencing hearings are set to be heard in the Starke Circuit Court today by Judge Kim Hall, including hearings for two men accused of Class B felonies. Anthony W. Clemons faces charges of Dealing in Methamphetamine as a Class B felony, among others, while Bruce Banks is charged with Burglary as a Class B felony.

After pleading guilty in September to Intimidation as a Class D felony, Carl Balaszek received his sentence before Judge Kim Hall in the Starke Circuit Court. Balaszek admitted to threatening the parents of his ex-girlfriend during what he describes as a “bad breakup” that has put his future in jeopardy. The victim submitted a letter to be read aloud in court, in which he stated that he was placed in fear of his life by Balaszek and was glad to see justice being served.
DNA Evidence Links Suspect to Burglary Incident in Starke County
A suspect has been produced from DNA evidence retrieved from a burglary incident in Starke County.
Caroline Gregory reported a burglary at her residence in June of 2010 where she told police that her computer and a muzzleloader were stolen. Blood samples were retrieved as evidence from the scene was well as several fingerprints. The evidence was sent to the Indiana State Police Crime Lab in Lowell, Indiana and on June 17th, 2011, the Starke County Sheriff’s Department received notice that DNA evidence was recovered from one of the items. A hit in the DNA databank found Bruce Banks to be the suspect in the case.
