Proper Christmas Tree Disposal Urged by State Fire Marshal’s Office

As the holiday season continues, Hoosiers are reminded to keep an eye on the live Christmas trees in their homes. The average Christmas tree lasts for about a month after purchase, before it begins to dry out and become a fire hazard, according to the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office. When a tree’s needles drop, it’s time to remove it.

City of Knox Christmas Tree Pickup Begins

Christmas treeThe City of Knox will begin picking up natural Christmas trees today. They should be placed at the curb in the same location one would use for seasonal brush pickup. All ornaments and tinsel should be removed.

Trees can also be taken to the compost drop-off site behind city hall. The city’s trash contractor will not pick up natural trees.

The city of Knox trash contractor will not pick up natural Christmas trees. They can be placed in the compost drop-off pile located behind city hall. Make sure all tinsel, lights and other decorations are removed first. The city will pick up trees starting Jan. 4th.

Be sure to remove ornaments, lights and tinsel from the tree before placing it at the curb where brush would normally be placed in the summer months. Trees can also be taken to the compost pile located behind city hall. Trash contractors will not pick up natural Christmas trees.
