Starke County Traffic Safety Partnership to Participate in Click it or Ticket Campaign

Officers from the Starke County Sheriff’s Department and Knox and North Judson Police Departments will be participating in the “Click it or Ticket” campaign beginning May 18th through June 3rd.

This blitz, coordinated by the Indiana Governor’s Council on Impaired or Dangerous Driving, allows officers to patrol during this seat belt enforcement period. All drivers and passengers are encouraged to wear their seat belts at all times in a motor vehicle. If you don’t wear your seat belt, you will receive a traffic citation. No warnings will be given.

Seatbelt Patrols Amped Up in Marshall County

Seatbelt patrols throughout Marshall County have been stepped up since April 20th, as part of the state’s Rural Demonstration Project. State police officials have announced their participation in the annual effort, which aims to increase seat belt use by motorists in rural counties with the highest percentage of unrestrained fatalities.

The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute says 64 percent of the state’s overall traffic fatalities occurred on rural roadways in 2011. In an effort to reduce that number, about 24 law enforcement agencies throughout the state, along with the Indiana State Police, will participate in the project that runs through May 17. Participating agencies will be tasked with looking out for unrestrained motorists in any vehicle, including pickup trucks.

Operation Pull Over Campaign to Begin May 20th

The Indiana State Police, including the Lowell District troopers that cover Starke, Pulaski, Lake, Porter, Newton and Jasper Counties, will be joining 250 other law enforcement agencies in the state in an effort to reduce injuries and fatalities by participating in the Operation Pull Over, Blitz 67, “Click it or Ticket” campaign. Troopers are able to perform extra patrols during the Memorial Day holiday travel period thanks to federal funds.
