Knox High School is getting $10,000 to help students explore college and career opportunities. The school board approved an agreement with the Indiana Commission for Higher Education Tuesday, allowing the school to receive that grant funding.

Senior students who may be stressing out about how to pay for college will be happy to learn that applications are now available for the Starke County Community Foundation’s Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship.
Community Foundation officials say that in order to be eligible for this 4-year full-tuition scholarship, applicants have to currently reside in Starke County. They also need to be a high school senior on track to graduate with a diploma from an accredited Indiana high school by the end of June 2019. Continue reading
Plymouth High School Will No Longer Serve as a College Goal Sunday Site Due to Flooding
Due to the current conditions in Marshall County, Plymouth High School will no longer serve as a College Goal Sunday site on February 25th.
Plymouth Community Schools Marketing Director Judi Lykowski encourages local families to attend this weekend’s event at any of the other locations across the state. She said other nearby locations include Valparaiso, Goshen, Warsaw, Elkhart and South Bend. A plethora of other sites are listed at CollegeGoalSunday.org.

Ancilla College Prepares for Fall Semester Ag Program Launch

Students return to the campus this weekend, but in addition to introducing new students, Ancilla is also introducing the new degree program. Despite being located in a heavily agricultural area, the two-year liberal arts school has not had an active academic program to this point.

Ancilla Signs Credit Transfer Agreement with St. Joe College
Ancilla College has signed an agreement with St. Joseph’s College that can allow students to transfer credits.
The two colleges are members of the Northern Indiana Catholic College Consortium and allows St. Joseph’s College to work with Ancilla students when attempting to complete an associates degree or four-year degree.

Financial Reform Leads to Course, Graduation Increases
More Hoosiers are graduating college on time.
That’s according to a report from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education. The report says that since financial aid reform was adopted in 2013, the number of college students taking and completing the minimum number of courses needed to graduate on time has increased by double digits.

Area Schools Could Benefit From Community College Proposal
Ivy Tech Community College says they may become more accessible if one of President Barack Obama’s proposals makes it through Congress.
The President announced last week his intent to significantly reduce the cost of attending community college. The multi-billion dollar program intends to largely pay for the cost of the first two years of tuition for students maintaining a certain grade point average. This could have implications locally.

Free Seminar Offered For College Prep In Plymouth
Preparing for college is by no means an easy task, but a seminar planned for this month might make it a little easier. Financial Advisor Rodney L. Jacobs will be hosting a free seminar on college preparation in Plymouth, and he encourages any and all parents to attend.
Jacobs says the seminar will focus on preparing for college, and two speakers will explain the process of planning for college costs, preparing FAFSA forms, and finding scholarships. He says they will also talk about helpful tools to help with the process, and give a several different tips on planning for the child’s college education.
Jacobs say this seminar is ideal for parents, especially those with children in sixth grade and up, as ell as grandparents who are interested in learning what they can do to help without impacting any aid the child may be eligible for.
The seminar will take place on Thursday, Sept. 20, from 6–8 p.m. at Memories Reception Hall, located at 401 E. Jefferson St. in Plymouth.
