The Center for Disease control said that Indiana is one of the three worst states for overdose fatality reports because of inconsistencies in the way coroners test and fill out death certificates. In an effort to improve that reporting, the Indiana State Department of Health’s Division of Trauma and Injury Prevention launched a toxicology pilot program that works with coroners and allows them to order either a basic or more comprehensive panel. The Pulaski County Coroner’s Office has identified the man who died in a June 9th Francesville house fire.
New Starke Coroner Inducted in Short Ceremony, Monday
Starke County inducted a new Coroner on Monday afternoon.
Dannie Hoffer, Jr. was elected to serve in the position after members of the Starke County Democratic Party precinct committee made the selection, last week. Hoffer, Jr. was one of four candidates vying for the position.

A caucus was held Wednesday night at the VFW in Knox to select a new candidate for the job. Filling the position during a special caucus was needed following the resignation former Coroner Adam Gray – who cited personal and professional reasons behind the move.

Autopsy Findings Released for Victim of Salvage Yard Accident
Marshall County Coroner William Cleavenger released the preliminary autopsy finds in last week’s fatal accident at an auto salvage facility in Plymouth.
Forty six year old Brian Lehiy died of injuries that were consistent with positional traumatic asphyxiation when a car fell on him while working at the salvage yard. Lehiy was an employee of the business where the incident occurred Wednesday.
