Pulaski County BZA Approves another Special Exception for Mammoth Solar Project

A proposed solar farm has passed another approval round with the Pulaski County Board of Zoning Appeals. Board members approved a special exception request for the Mammoth Solar project Monday. It adds almost 4,700 acres to the project’s footprint.

Pulaski County Council Finalizes More than $1 Million in Additional Appropriations

The Pulaski County Council finalized over a million dollars in additional appropriations Monday, but not without a debate on funding for COVID-19 response. The county’s Incident Management Team asked for almost $48,000, the amount that was left unspent from last year’s $100,000 additional appropriation. But with only about $2,400 actually being spent on PPE last year, Council Member Rudy DeSabatine wasn’t comfortable approving the entire request at once.

Pulaski County Coroner Still Ineligible for Health Insurance, Retirement Benefits following County Council Decision

Efforts to bring the Pulaski County Coroner’s Office in line with other county departments moved forward slightly last month, but the county council stopped short of offering the coroner health insurance and retirement benefits. Council members agreed to let County Attorney Kevin Tankersley add the Coroner’s Office to the county handbook and review a proposed job description for a part-time deputy.

Pulaski County Council Votes to Support Courthouse Renovation Plan

A plan to renovate the Pulaski County Courthouse and expand the Justice Center has gotten the support of the county council, but not without a few concerns. Back in December, the county commissioners agreed to pursue a project that would restore the courthouse and install a security checkpoint, but move Circuit Court to the Justice Center. On Monday, the county council voted six-to-one to support the project and try to fund it.

Pulaski County Coroner to Solidify Deputies’ Job Descriptions with County Council

Pulaski County Coroner Jon Frain continues working to try to solidify some of his office’s policies. “Just a little history: notoriously, throughout the county’s handbook and other literature and stuff, even the website . . . the Coroner’s Office just doesn’t exist,” he told the county council last week, “and some of it’s like folklore. Some of it’s tradition. Some of it’s just kind of by the seat of our pants.”

Rep. Gutwein Introduces Bill to Help Fund Pulaski County Courthouse Renovations

Now that the Pulaski County Commissioners have recommended a path forward for courthouse renovations, discussions about how to fund it will begin in the county council and the Indiana General Assembly. State Representative Doug Gutwein has introduced legislation that would allow a special income tax that’s currently in place to pay for the Justice Center to be extended until 2036 to fund courthouse renovations.

Pulaski Council Considers Additional Appropriation for Last Year’s Elevator Replacement

The Pulaski County Courthouse elevator was completed almost a year ago, but the county council is still being asked to consider funding arrangements. An additional appropriation request for almost $57,000 was presented Tuesday for council members’ consideration. Council Member Kathi Thompson voiced concern, noting that the money has already been spent, even though the council is just now being asked for permission to spend it.
