Culver Students Prepare for Presidential Inaugural Parade

The Culver Academies Black Horse Troop and the Culver Girls Academy Equestriennes continue to practice for the Presidential Inaugural Parade on Monday, Jan. 21.

Four local students will be riding along in the parade. Celeta Dodge of Walkerton, Joshua Kuric of Knox, Natalie Hogan of Plymouth and Peter and Paul Foersch of Culver will be riding with the other 20-plus members of the Equestriennes and 50-plus members of the Black Horse Troop.

Culver Academies Present Plena Libre In Concert Aug. 27

The Culver Academies are proud to present Plena Libri in concert at the Eppley Auditorium of the academies.

The four-time Grammy Award-winning group brings to life the music of Puerto Rico with a swinging rhythm section, horns, vocals, and dance. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium at 1300 Academy Road, with tickets available for $20. For ticket information, call (574) 842-7058.

Relay for Life to begin in Culver Today

Culver participants get ready for this year's event

More than 50 teams and 400 participants will be involved this evening in the fifth annual Relay For Life of Culver. The overnight event begins at 7:00 p.m. ET at the Multipurpose Building on the campus of Culver Academies.

Student organizers have set a $130,000 goal for this year’s event, which will be held indoors and outdoors. Many of the events will be staged in the Multipurpose Building on the corner of Indiana 10 and Academy Road, but activities and vendors will also be located in the grassy area along Indiana 10. Relay walkers will be able to turn their laps inside, outside, or a little of each.

Equestrian Grand Liberty Tour Coming to Culver Academies

Sylvia Zerbini, the recent star of Cavalia from 2008 – 2011, will bring her Arabian horses and her “Grand Liberty Tour” to the Vaughn Equestrian Center at the Culver Academies on April 21st and 22nd for two performances.

She will perform in the Jud Little Riding Hall on the campus at 7:30 p.m. ET on April 21st and at 3:30 p.m. ET on April 22nd. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Academies’ Eppley Auditorium Box Office at (574) 842-7058, with general admission tickets carrying a cost of $10 and a number of reserved seats are available as well, priced at $15.

Culver Academies and Bike Barn Hosting Historical Bike Tour

Culver Academies is teaming up with the Bike Barn in Culver to present another in the BB’s ongoing series of Culver history bike tours on Saturday, August 20th starting at 9:30 a.m. ET.

The tour will begin at the Bike Barn, 103 East Lake Shore Drive, and journey just down the street to the Culver Academies Museum and Gift Shop for an introductory tour of the museum and opening remarks by museum curator Jeff Kenney.

Following that will be an historic tour of Culver Academies, the hidden gem of architectural and aesthetic charm that it is.

The total distance of the tour will be five miles and is open to the public. Riders will need to bring their own bicycles, and use of helmets is strongly encouraged. All riders ride at their own risk.

Anyone who would like to gain a sense of what Culver is like, or what it was was like in the past is encouraged to attend. That’s 9:30 a.m. at the Bike Barn in Culver.

Relay for Life of Culver Steps off Friday

Walkers for the fourth annual Relay For Life of Culver will take their first steps toward a $130,000 goal at 7 p.m. Friday, April 15, at Culver Academies Oliver Field, located on at the intersection of Indiana 10 and 117.

The all-night event will feature Indianapolis Colts placekicker Adam Vinatieri for the second consecutive year. Vinatieri will speak at the survivor dinner preceding the Relay, attend the opening ceremony, and walk the first lap. New this year will be a fireworks show after dusk provided by Mad Bomber Fireworks Productions, according to Co-chairman Kyle Blankenship, a Crown Point, Ind., senior.

Paqui Kelly to Help Kick off Culver Academies’ Relay for Life

Two-time cancer survivor Paqui Kelly, the wife of Notre Dame football coach Brian Kelly, will share her story and personal experience with students of Culver Academies at an all-school assembly at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 13th, at Eppley Auditorium.

Kelly’s appearance will serve as a prelude to the Academies’ fourth annual Relay For Life at 7 p.m. ET, Friday , April 15th, at Oliver Field, located at the corner of Indiana 10 and 117. The Academies’ Relay was the first in Indiana to be student-organized and has raised more than $350,000. This year’s goal, which will be donated to cancer research, is $130,000.
