The Winamac Town Park will see several of its dead trees replaced, thanks to the Indiana Department of Transportation. INDOT had planted trees in the Town Park, to replace ones that were removed as part of a State Road 14 reconstruction project. However, many of those trees have been unable to survive. Picnic tables will soon be available for rent from the Town of Winamac. The town council voted Monday to allow people who are planning events to rent the town’s picnic tables when they’re not needed at the Town Park, at a cost of five dollars per table. Continue reading

The Winamac Town Council has taken action to resolve a dispute with a contractor hired to remove ash trees from the Town Park. Last week, the council voted to withhold $1,650 of the town’s $20,000 payment to TD’s Tree Service. Park Manager Dave DeLorenzo had reported that the firm cut down some trees that the town planned to remove itself, while four other ash trees were left standing. Continue reading

The Town of Winamac is exploring its options when it comes to the removal of ash trees from the Town Park. One option proposed to the town council this week by Park Manager Dave DeLorenzo was to drop the trees and then allow the public to cut them up and remove the wood in exchange for a fee. This is similar to the method used at the Tippecanoe River State Park last month. Continue reading
