The plans for the new Hamlet-Davis Township Fire Department building moved forward last night at a joint meeting of the Davis Township Advisory Board and the Davis Township Building Corporation. When the Davis Township Building Corporation met last night it was advised by the Starke County Community Foundation that the James Hardesty Endowment Fund would be providing $25,000 a year, for eight years, for the construction of the new firehouse and community building.
The Davis Township Advisory Board and Trustee, which met concurrently, were advised by Umbaugh Associates that the Hardesty eight-year annual gift will reduce the total amount of interest the corporation will have to pay for the bonding. Continue reading
The Davis Township Building Corporation will meet this evening in Hamlet to consider the next steps with regard to building a new fire station and community center there. The meeting starts at 6 p.m. CDT at the current fire station on Pearl Street. The advance agenda shared with WKVI News indicates members will consider the process for approval to issue bonds for the project. Hamlet and Davis Township officials will open bids on Monday, Sept. 15 for the new fire station they plan to build next to the Starke County Fairgrounds. A public hearing is set for Monday, Aug. 18 at 6 p.m. CT to hear comments on a proposed lease between the Davis Township Building Corporation and Davis Township for a new fire station.
The project includes the construction of a fire station that will house eight fire trucks and an adjacent space for a community center. The new fire station will be located just east of the Starke County Fairgrounds in Hamlet off of Indiana Street.
