North Judson’s recently terminated town marshal has filed a formal appeal of his firing. The town council fired John Ramos during a special-called meeting on Friday, April 21. North Judson Receives Grant for Radar Gun
The Town of North Judson’s getting a new hand-held radar gun thanks to a grant from Kankakee Valley REMC’s Operation Round Up program. The program raises money for local causes by giving customers the option to have their electric bill rounded up to the next highest dollar, with that extra money going to the program. Scams Continue to Plague the Area
A woman in North Judson recently reported to Police that she received some suspicious text messages from a place claiming to be the federal court asking for money to keep her out of jail. After looking into the legitimacy of the claims she deciphered it was a scam. Other scams have also been reported, one being a claim that the recipient had won a monetary prize but needed to send cash in order to obtain the money. The other was someone claiming to be from the IRS threatening to put the person in jail due to back taxes owed in the amount of over $5,000. North Judson Police Warn of Social Media Scam
A new scam has hit social media.
According to a report taken by an officer with the North Judson Police Department, a resident claimed she was contacted through Facebook of a person claiming to be in the military stationed in Afghanistan. The person asked for her bank account information so he could mail some money back home. Luckily, the transaction was voided before money could be taken from the bank account.
North Judson Town Board Swears In Two New Members
The North Judson Town Board swore in their two new members, Josh Brown and Justin Davis, who are now filling the seats created during the general election. A public question presented to voters in North Judson on Nov. 6 asked whether or not the town board should be expanded to five members, and the overwhelming majority gave it their approval. Now, the two youngest board members are taking their seats on the newly-expanded board.
North Judson Finalizes ADA Plan
The town of North Judson has met the ever-nearing deadline for the drafting of an ADA compliance plan. Clerk-Treasurer Donna Henry explained that ADA Coordinator Doug Vessely presented the final draft of the ADA plan that he had developed, with details about what improvements have been made and what work must still be done.
Henry explained that the plan is basically finalized, and just in time – the deadline of Dec. 31 was getting a little too close for comfort.
ADA Compliance Efforts Continue in North Judson
North Judson Town Marshal Doug Vessely is staying on top of efforts to bring the town up to ADA-compliance codes, and he said he just has a few intersections to look at as far as handicapped accessibility, but besides that, Vessely said everything else is just about up to snuff.
He said he has plans to install a few more handicapped ramps at a number of intersections, as well as permanent handicapped parking spaces at the civic center and community building. On top of that, he said there are plans to improve handicapped access to the parks for those in wheelchairs. Vessely said he has also already added some braille signage to restrooms in the community building.
