Capital Projects Update Provided at North Judson-San Pierre School Board Meeting

Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin provided the North Judson-San Pierre School members with a capital projects update when they met Tuesday night.

Dr. Zupin informed members that the emergency renovations to the pool are officially complete and it is fully operational. The pool area will now have renovations done to the dehumidification system as a part of the capital projects. Continue reading

North Judson-San Pierre School Board Held First Reading Over Policy Revisions

North Judson-San Pierre school board members held the first reading over a few different policies when they met last Tuesday. Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin explained that the proposed policy revisions were a result of the spring 2017 legislative session. She said a majority of the changes had to do with correcting typos and adapting language in some places.

However, she highlighted a few that included more details including polices over child neglect/abuse education, suicide prevention and background checks. One proposed change deals with background checks. Other than asserting that checks must be conducted on an annual basis, the policy also indicates that the specific school corporation is responsible for the cost of the background checks, once the person is an established employee. North Judson-San Pierre Superintendent Provides School Board With a Few Project Updates

At last night’s North Judson-San Pierre School Board meeting, Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin provided board members with a brief update about a current project that is nearing completion and another project that will be addressed in the near future.

First, she alerted board members that the pool repairs are nearly complete. Employees with the company Buddenbaum & Moore Commercial Pool Services have finished replacing the faulty main drain boxes and pipes have been set. She said this week they are re-tiling. Once all the tile is laid, the curing period will take approximately one month. Continue reading

Adventure Island Preschool to Lease Space at Former N.J.-S.P. Middle School

Adventure Island Preschool will join the Starke County Community Foundation as a tenant of the former N.J.-S.P. Middle School

The former North Judson-San Pierre Middle School building will have another new tenant come January. The school board voted last night to lease the former family and consumer science classroom to Adventure Island Preschool through May for $350 per month. Continue reading

N.J.-S.P. School Board to Meet at High School Tonight

The North Judson-San Pierre School Board will announce tonight what process they might favor in terms of transitioning from an appointed to an elected board. Members conducted a work session last month with representatives of the Bluejay Nation Pride group and their attorney to discuss the process. Elected school board advocate Matt Bailey says that group is prepared to move forward next month with the necessary petition to bring the question to the voters if the school board does not act. N.J.-S.P. Principals Outline Transition Plans

BluejayStudents finishing fifth grade at North Judson-San Pierre will be the oldest in the school for two consecutive years as part of the transition to a kindergarten through 6th grade elementary. The school board recently approved the move, along with the consolidation of the middle and high schools into North Judson-San Pierre Junior High. Continue reading

N.J.-S.P. Wraps Up Superintendent Search

The North Judson-San Pierre School Board is prepared to offer the superintendent job to an administrator within the corporation. Board President Pat Goin confirmed during last night’s public hearing on the proposed contract that high school Principal Dr. Annette Zupin will be offered the job at next week’s regularly scheduled meeting. N.J.-S.P. School Board Approves Driver’s Education Offering

BluejayNorth Judson-San Pierre High School will offer driver’s education classes this summer on a first-come, first-served basis. The cost is $330 per student, with a $100 deposit payable to the school to reserve a spot. The class can accommodate up to 30 students. Principal Dr. Annette Zupin says enrollment is open to students from other area high schools as well as North Judson-San Pierre. Continue reading
