Eastern Pulaski School Board Approves Multiple Donations

A recent fund raising event helped raise nearly $2,000 for the Eastern Pulaski Community School Corporation.

When school board members met on Monday, they accepted a donation from Jim Dobson Ford. Superintendent Dan Foster said the dealership held a “Drive-4-Ur-School” fundraiser over the summer and raised a total of $1990. Foster said that money has been earmarked for school safety.

Sergeant Terry Hall Provides “Body Safety Program” Presentations to Eastern Pulaski Students

Eastern Pulaski Schools recently held several powerful presentations led by Sergeant Terry Hall, a 28-year veteran of the Indianapolis Police Department and former director of the child neglect and abuse prevention program “Good Touch-Bad Touch.”

Terry Hall is the founder and presenter for the “Body Safety Program” which teaches children of all ages important lessons about body autonomy and inappropriate behaviors that should be reported.

Superintendent Dan Foster explained that Hall presented at the elementary and middle schools last year and this year they were able to have him speak at the high school level, thanks to grant funding.

Foster spoke very highly of Hall, saying that he was able to effectively incorporate the same kind of lessons in different ways to address a variety of age groups. Continue reading

Fall Break Extended for Eastern Pulaski Students in Board Approved 2018-19 School Calendar

Eastern Pulaski School Board members approved the 2018-2019 school calendar when they met Monday night.

Superintendent Dan Foster said it is fairly similar to this year’s calendar with the one big difference being the length of fall break. Foster explained that in the past, for fall break in the month of October they only allowed for Monday and Friday off. Adjustments were made to the 18-19 calendar and now there is a week-long break in October. Continue reading

Eastern Pulaski School Board Discusses Substitute Teacher Pay Policy

A request to increase the pay for a substitute elementary school teacher was up for approval at the Eastern Pulaski Community School Board meeting Monday night.

Superintendent Dan Foster explained that Joan Murray has taken on the roll of a teacher twice so far this year. At the beginning of the year she filled in for Dana Field for five weeks. Most recently, she started subbing for Brandi Kappes and will remain in that position until January.

The superintendent explained that Mrs. Murray has taken on quite a few more responsibilities that warrant additional compensation. Continue reading

Students Gearing Up to Head Back to School This Week

 
 

It’s back to school week throughout the Kankakee Valley and many children are doing their best to enjoy these last few days of freedom from teachers, homework and classes. Registration is behind them, they’ve got their shots and it’s time to begin the new school year.

At Knox Community Schools, students will be heading to the classrooms for their first day back today. Elementary students begin their day at 7:50 a.m. and leave at 2:50 p.m.; middle school students start at 7:35 a.m., leaving at 2:40 p.m.; and high school students begin at 8 a.m. and leave at 2:55 p.m. Students will be dismissed a half-hour early every Friday.
