Warrior Academy Has Successful First Month
Winamac High School is seeing success with its new Warrior Academy alternative school program. Teacher Karen Butler, who oversees the program, told the Eastern Pulaski School Board that one month into the program, it’s already helping students who weren’t comfortable learning in a traditional classroom setting. Walorski Visits Winamac Community High School
Congresswoman Jackie Walorski paid a visit to Winamac Community High School on Monday to check out the school’s new Warrior Academy. Students under the supervision of teacher Karen Butler spend part of the day doing credit recovery. It allows the 16 students in the program to take courses they struggled with in a traditional classroom in an independent study setting. Walorski applauds the efforts to help students graduate. More Than 1600 Hoosier Students Benefit from Field Trip Grant Program
Thanks to the Discovering the Outdoors Field Trip Grant Program, students at 22 Indiana schools will learn about nature by visiting Indiana state parks and reservoirs this school year. The grants are open to public, private, religious and home-school educators and are administered through the Indiana Natural Resources Foundation, the supporting non-profit of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. Eastern Pulaski School Board Votes to Change Banks
According to Eastern Pulaski Community Schools’ Superintendent Dan Foster, the corporation has been having some concerns with their primary financial provider for several months now. Issues included inconsistency, unreliability and an abundance of unnecessary fees.
In order to solve the problem, a proposal was composed and sent out to several potential providers. The current institution did not even reply to the proposal. This led Superintendent Foster to address the school board Monday evening and suggest switching their primary financial institution to one of the two places that did respond. Continue reading
Eastern Pulaski School Board Unanimously Approves Roofing Contract Proposal
During their meeting Monday evening, the Eastern Pulaski School Board unanimously approved a a roofing contract with Insley Systems Inc. Gibraltar Design Inc. has been the main construction consultant for the corporation during their building renovations. Certain projects are out of Gibraltar’s wheel house so they make recommendations for special projects. They submitted a proposal to the board for Insley to tackle the roofing project. USDA Makes it Their Mission to Make School Lunches Healthier
It’s back-to-school season and that means you’ll no longer be in control of what your child is eating for breakfast and lunch every day. Luckily, the United States Department of Agriculture oversees school lunches nationally. Back in 2010 the Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act was put in place to transform the school food environment in order to promote better nutrition, combat childhood hunger and reduce the likelihood of developing obesity. Mosquito Samples from Several Indiana Counties Test Positive for West Nile Virus
This summer’s above average amount of rainfall has been ideal for mosquito breeding. According to state health officials, West Nile Virus has been confirmed in almost 10 Indiana counties. The virus has only been spotted in mosquito samples and no avian or human infections have been reported or confirmed thus far. Continue reading

Winamac Safe Routes to School Project Nears Completion
During the Monday evening Winamac Town Council meeting Town Manager Brad Zellers provided an update about the ‘Safe Routes to School’ Program. The SRTS program first started up in 2012 after a grant was received allowing for more than 2,000 feet of trail and ADA compliant sidewalks leading from the school to the downtown area to be put in place. Eastern Pulaski School Board Amends School Calendar
Over the past few years, due to make up days for winter weather conditions, the end of the year over at the Eastern Pulaski School Corporation has been hectic. This year graduation happened to fall on the same day as the last school day. This puts a lot of excess unneeded pressure on older students. During last night’s school board meeting a decision was reached to incorporate a few extra school days into the calendar to avoid the same issues next school year. Continue reading
