Medaryville’s decision to change its town election cycle was officially acknowledged by the Pulaski County Election Board Tuesday.
Town Attorney Informs Winamac Officials They Will Have to Wait to Re-Certify the Town’s Districts
Winamac Town Council members were alerted about an overlooked law that took effect in 2012 regarding small town primary elections and districts when they met Monday night. Town Attorney Justin Schramm explained that the law requires towns under a population of 3,500 to pass an ordinance recertifying their districts two years after a decennial census is conducted. The last census took place in 2010.
Schramm stated, “Between 2012 and 2017 there had to have been some type of ordinance or resolution recertifying the districts within the Town of Winamac.” Continue reading
Medaryville Town Council Passes Ordinances Pertaining to Election Procedures
Medaryville Town Council members held the final reading over two ordinances related to election procedures when they met last week.
Clerk-Treasurer Judy Harwood explained that town council members were considering these ordinances in order to adjust term lengths. She said the switch will have a positive impact on the cost of running an election.
She stated, “What they’re trying to do is get on the presidential elections and then there’s no cost to the town if they do that.” Continue reading
Medaryville Council Considers Changing Town Election Cycle
The Town of Medaryville may soon be changing its election cycle. Clerk-Treasurer Judy Harwood says the town council is considering a pair of ordinances that would move the town’s elections to presidential election years. “So then, there’ll be a one-year term for the first election, which will fall in our general election time, and then after that one-year term, then we’ll fall in with the presidential term,” she explains.
Open Seats in Starke County for 2018 Elections
According to Starke County Election Deputy Clerk Crystal McCarty-Taylor, people can file for a declaration of candidacy starting today anytime between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. and they have until February 9th at noon to file.
Interested individuals must come into the Starke County Clerk’s Office to file. She added that no exceptions will be made if the February deadline is missed.
Officials up for election in Starke County include the County Sheriff, Assessor, Coroner, Recorder and Auditor as well as the Prosecuting Attorney and Circuit Court Clerk. Elections will also be held for the County Commissioners in District 2 which includes California, Center and Davis Townships. Continue reading
