The Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor is providing tips to help combat the increase in electric bills.
Counselor Dave Stippler says the summer season should be a time to remember to use electricity more wisely. Doing so can not only ease the cost of running utilities, but also prevent excess workload on the electric grid.

The City of Knox is expected to be back on track today.
Power was lost to a section of the city after a garbage truck was pulling out of a city parking lot. The truck caught a power line and snapped the pole in two, causing the outage.

Kankakee Valley REMC and NIPSCO customers are being asked to conserve electricity as much as possible.
REMC has been working with its large power customers by implementing agreements that allow for interruption of service. Residential and small commercial customers are asked to voluntarily limit the use of electricity as much as possible. All load management problems are being used to reduce demand. Turn off all unnecessary lights, delay the use of major appliances until late at night or early morning hours and set thermostats no lower than 78 degrees.
