The Purdue Extension for Starke County is hosting a Color Me Green 4-H Dash – the first event of its kind for the organization – and they are inviting all 4-H Members, families, volunteers, community members, and anyone who wants to have fun to join in the fun. This color run/walk will be held on Saturday, April 5 with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m. CT. The run/walk will begin at 8 a.m. at the Oregon-Davis High School.
4-H Enrollment Deadline is Today
Today is the deadline to sign up for 4-H for the upcoming year. It’s a youth enrichment program for youngsters in grade school through high school. The traditional 4-H program starts in 3rd grade and goes until a member is in 12th grade or 10 years. Younger children can take part in “Exploring 4-H.” It’s open to youth in kindergarten through 2nd grade. 4-H is open to all rural and urban youth who fall into the program’s age parameters. Exploring 4-H members are limited to one project per year, but traditional 4-H members can take as many projects as they are comfortable juggling. 4-H Enrollment Under Way
Annual enrollment for 4-H continues through the end of the month. Starke County Extension Director and 4-H Youth Development Educator Elisabeth Smith says it’s a youth enrichment program for youngsters in grade school through high school.
“Our traditional 4-H program starts in 3rd grade and goes until a member is in 12th grade or 10 years. Prior to that, in order to introduce the kids and get them excited about 4-H, we have what’s called “Exploring 4-H.” That’s for our youth in kindergarten through 2nd grade,” said Smith.
Starke County 4-H Director Receives Youth Development Program Award
A Starke County 4-H extension director was recently awarded the 2013 4-H Youth Development Successful Program Award at the Purdue Extension Professional Development Conference. Elisabeth L. Smith, Starke County Extension director and Extension educator, 4-H Youth Development, earned the award, which was created to honor individuals across the state of Indiana who have excelled in the promotion and marketing of the 4-H youth organization.
