Town officials first imposed the fine in June, saying the garage on Railroad Street near the former bank building was unsafe, with a partially-collapsed roof. But they agreed to give the owner another chance to tear it down or clean it up, after he pleaded with town officials for an extension.

The Hamlet Town Council has given the owner of a dilapidated garage another 30 days to clean up the structure before imposing a $5,000 fine. The fine was approved during this month’s zoning board meeting, after town officials said Louis Gorgees failed to repair or demolish the structure on Railroad Street near the former bank building.

A new set of fines for building violations has been finalized by the Knox City Council. Residential properties found to be in violation will now get an initial $100 fine, plus another $300 if the issue hasn’t been corrected and the fine hasn’t been paid within 30 days – and another $500 for every month after that. Fines at commercial properties range from $100 to $300 per day, depending on how long it takes to correct the problems.

Pulaski County Adds Incentive for Candidate Paperwork Deadlines
The Pulaski County Election Board has decided to develop fines that may affect candidates for political office.
A few members of the board recently traveled to the Indiana Election Administrators Conference. Among the topics brought back for consideration is applying fines to candidates who may not file required financial paperwork by state deadlines.
