Number of New Unemployment Claims Remains High but Down Significantly from March Peak

Those filing for unemployment benefits continue to get some guidance from the state. More than 57,000 initial unemployment claims were filed in Indiana last week, according to the Department of Workforce Development. Commissioner Fred Payne says that’s significantly lower than the peak in March, but still more than double the pre-COVID-19 peak.

‘Hoosiers Serving Hoosiers’ Aims to Link Jobseekers with Direct Support and Childcare Jobs

A new online tool seeks to connect those looking for work with the needs that exist during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration says the state needs people to provide critical care for the elderly and those with disabilities. Child care providers are also needed to watch the kids of first responders, health care professionals, and other essential workers, so they can continue to keep others’ safe.
