Knox Trash and Recycling Transition Underway

Republic Services toters await delivery Tuesday.

The changeover in Knox residents’ trash and recycling pickup is underway. Mayor Dennis Estok asks residents to put out their old Waste Management recycle bins today. It is important to ensure waste is rightly segregated for recycling. Improper introduction of waste will contaminate the recycling process. New Garbage Contractor Takes Over in Hamlet

The Town of Hamlet is ready for its new trash pickup provider. Local Affordable Disposal has completed the delivery of residents’ new garbage totes, and the company’s first garbage pickup day is Tuesday. “The transition has been very smooth,” Town Council President Dave Kesvormas reported Wednesday, “and we encourage any residents that have any issues to let us know immediately.” Town officials also reminded residents that large items will be collected the first Tuesday of each month.

North Judson Restores Water to Pioneer Cemetery, Alleys Still in Need of Repair

Efforts to restore North Judson’s Pioneer Cemetery have gotten a bit easier, thanks to some help from the town. Town Superintendent Marshall Horstmann told the town council Monday that town employees had conducted a water tap at the cemetery and installed a yard hydrant with a padlock to limit access. City of Knox Garbage Rates to Increase

Last week, Knox Mayor Rick Chambers reminded the City Council members that the cost of garbage pickup in the City would increase on August 1st. The total cost will go up just over $5,000.

“In 2010, it was $206,967.60,” the Mayor told the Council. “On July 31st, it will go up to 212,076.”

The increase per customers is only pennies.
