
Information shared from the Indiana Department of Homeland Security shares that area schools in Starke, Pulaski, La Porte and Marshall counties, have been awarded more than $814,000 through Indiana’s Secured School Safety Grant Program.

Construction kicked off yesterday on a ‘rain garden’ in front of the Knox Community Elementary School. Last year, Knox faculty members Jamie Shireman and Marge Wood received $11,000 dollars worth of grant money to bring an outdoor nature lab to the school.
For the first time this year, The Starke County Community Foundation has adopted an open grant-cycle meaning that grant applications will be accepted and awards will be given year-round. $5,000 worth of grants were recently distributed to several local non-profit organizations.
