With the Harvest Days Festival just a week away, courthouse tours are set to begin this weekend, offering a unique look at the 115-year-old Starke County Courthouse.
The tours are scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 25 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. These tours have been conducted since 1994, and during that time, more than 5000 people have visited the courthouse’s eight floors and watched as the clock and bell ring out, tolling the time to the residents of Knox.
The City of Knox has voted money for a bank account for Harvest Days expenditures. The city council voted to approve $500 at the request of Michelle Bechtel, as Mayor Rick Chambers explained.
“Michelle Bechtel has taken over the chairmanship of the Harvest Fest. She has filed a Certificate of Incorporation and obtained an Employee Identification number from the I.R.S. She has also set up a bank account, and needs funds for postage, and miscellaneous bills she has right off the bat. I’ve explained to her at the end of the year a complete financial report of all expenditures and receipts is expected,” Chambers said.
Knox Mayor Rick Chambers told the City Council members recently that a meeting was held to organize for this summer’s Harvest Days celebration. The Mayor said the event will be held the last weekend in August as in past years.
The name of the organization that is assisting the Mayor is the Knox-Winamac Health Care System.
