Previously, WKVI reported a joint session between Starke County Commissioners and Starke County Council with hospital representation. Due to an unintentional error, WKVI did not report that this meeting is an Executive Session, and therefore not open to the general public. The now-corrected article reads as follows:

There will be a joint Executive Session of the Starke County Commissioners and the Starke County Council with Hospital representation on Wednesday April 30t, at 1pm.

Local Emergency Responders Participate in Hazardous Material Mitigation Tabletop Exercise

Local emergency personnel gathered in the Knox-Center Township Fire Department Wednesday morning to discuss how to test preparedness by responding to a hypothetical incident involving a hazardous chemical.

Starke County EMA Director J. Nier ran the exercise and it was monitored by Pulaski County EMA Director Sherri Gaillard. Officials from the medical field, law enforcement and fire departments were there to participate.

ISP Trooper Jim Strong was the first person on the scene of the hypothetical accident where a distracted semi driver carrying 6,000 of Anhydrous Ammonia crashed into a train track guardrail, damaging the tanker and causing a pungent white cloud to fill the air. Continue reading

Pulaski Commissioners Show Support for Federal PMH Financing

 
 

The Pulaski County Commissioners have provided a letter of support for a project upgrading Pulaski Memorial Hospital.

Officials have already sought special financing from the county to help pay for certain upgrades in the form of a storage facility and upgrades to the parking lot. This is only one part of the project, according to discussion during Monday night’s Commissioner’s meeting.

Five Injured in Two Vehicle Crash in LaPorte County

IMG_2738A two vehicle crash in LaPorte county sent five to area hospitals Tuesday morning.

The LaPorte County Sheriffs Department is investigating the incident which occurred on US 421 near Alida Road around 5:30 a.m.

Investigators believe a Ford Expedition, driven by a 44-year-old man was traveling north on US 421. That vehicle is thought to have collided with a Chevrolet truck driving southbound.
