A local woman who volunteered during past natural disasters such as the Henryville Tornado and Hurricane Sandy will be deploying to Houston this weekend to assist the Red Cross with mass care efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. Sherry Fagner is a former Incident Management Team member of the District 2 Task Force who now serves as the Lead Disaster Action Team member for Pulaski and Starke Counties. Items Collected for Hurricane Sandy Victims
Knox Middle School students took donations for Hurricane Sandy victims at the Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center in Knox yesterday morning.
Two pickup loads of items ranging from shampoo, diapers, blankets and other hygiene items were collected and will be sent to those in need.

The middle school students in Starke County will be collecting items for victims of Hurricane Sandy.
On Sunday, Dec. 2 from 10 a.m. to noon, students will be collecting personal hygiene items, socks, blankets, diapers and writing paper, envelopes and stamps to those who need help after being displaced by the hurricane.

Secretary of State Connie Lawson noted that telephone salespeople, advertisements and internet postings that promote investment tools or bonds to help storm victims should be a red flag for investors.
Local Emergency Responders Providing Aide in the Wake of Hurricane Sandy
Several local emergency responders are in various parts of the East Coast to tend to situations due to Hurricane Sandy.
The District 2 Emergency Management Team left Winamac Sunday around midnight and arrived in Baltimore, Maryland at Noon. The responders, which include those from Starke, Pulaski, Marshall and St. Joseph Counties, participated in several briefings with local emergency staff, on-site FEMA representatives and the Mayor of Baltimore. Starke County Emergency Management Director Ted Bombagetti is one of those emergency responders in the City of Baltimore and he indicated that District 2 will be conducting emergency operation planning and providing the city with damage assessment and debris management support starting this morning.
