The Pulaski County Election Board has set early voting hours, ahead of November’s General Election. The early voting period runs from October 10 through November 5. During that time, in-person absentee voting will take place Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 1:30 to 4:00 p.m. EDT at the Pulaski County Justice Center in Winamac.
Hundreds Vote Early, Ahead of Today’s Primary
Voters across Indiana head to the polls today, but hundreds of Starke and Pulaski county voters cast their ballots early. The Starke County Clerk’s Office reports that 697 in-person absentee ballots were cast ahead of today’s Primary Election. Another 100 Starke County residents voted by mail, while 33 voted by travel board. Pulaski County saw 485 in-person absentee ballots, 37 mail-in ballots, and 35 travel board ballots, according to Clerk Christi Hoffa.
Early Voting Continues Through Monday
Local voters have a few more chances to cast their ballots early, ahead of next week’s primary. In-person absentee voting continues today from 8:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Starke County Courthouse in Knox. Pulaski County residents may vote today at either the Pulaski County Justice Center in Winamac or the Francesville Fire Station from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Poll Worker’s Needlepoint Hobby Leads to Debate during Starke County Election Board Meeting
A poll worker’s needlepoint hobby led to a lengthy debate among Starke County Election Board members Wednesday. Board President Harrison Fields said he’s gotten complaints about a poll worker who’s apparently been doing needlepoint while waiting for potential voters, during in-person absentee voting hours. “I’ve had two phone calls on it, and me personally, I don’t like the looks of it, personally,” he said. “I don’t like the looks of it.”
Absentee Voting Underway in Starke, Pulaski Counties
With Primary Election Day still over two weeks away, many voters are choosing to cast their ballots early. The Starke County Clerk’s Office says 177 in-person absentee ballots had been cast as of Friday afternoon. Another 31 had voted by mail and 11 by travel board. In Pulaski County, 96 people had voted in-person and 49 by mail, according to the Clerk’s Office.

Those who want to vote in the May 8 primary but won’t be able to make it to the polls on Election Day have a few options. The Starke County Clerk’s Office is now accepting applications for mail-in ballots. They’ll be sent out to qualified voters starting the week of March 24, according to county election officials.

The Pulaski County Election Board is holding a work session this Wednesday to investigate the suitability of a site for potential in-person absentee voting.
At 11 a.m. ET the board will meet in the Pulaski County Clerk’s office at 112 East Main Street in Winamac.
