BMV Reinstatement Program Available until Dec. 31
Suspended drivers have until Dec. 31 to take advantage of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles’ Reinstatement Relief Program. The Reinstatement Relief Program allows suspended drivers to pay temporarily reduced reinstatement fees and earn reinstatement, as long as all other legal requirements are met.
Don Snemis, Commissioner of the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles, said the program offers a 50 percent discount on reinstatement fees before July 1, 2013 for operating without insurance. Customers may be responsible for providing proof of insurance, completing a driver safety program, paying court fees, or successfully passing a driver’s license written knowledge exam, driving skills exam or vision screening.
BMV Announces Holiday Branch Closings
If you have business to take care of at the BMV, you may want to do it during the first part of the week. Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles branches will be closed Thursday, Nov. 27 and Friday, Nov. 28 in honor of the Thanksgiving holiday. All license branches with Saturday hours will return to their regular schedules on Saturday, Nov. 29. Visit myBMV.com for more information.
Check for Excise Tax Eligibility on the BMV Website
You can check to see if you are eligible for an excise tax refund on the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicle’s website.
BMV Commissioner Don Snemis said letters have been sent to those who are eligible but in case you didn’t receive a claim form, access the refund eligibility page at www.myBMV.com. A “Check Your Excise Tax Refund Eligibility” icon can be found on the right side of the page and users will be asked for a Social Security Number or Driver’s License Number in order to check eligibility.
Polls are Open for General Election
Today is Election Day! The polls are open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. local time.
You need to have a legal ID in order to cast your important vote at the polls. The Bureau of Motor Vehicles will be open during the time the polls are open. License branches will only process new, amended or replacement ID cards, and renewed, amended or replacement driver’s licenses, learner permits, and CDLs. Aside from disability placards, the branches will not perform any other BMV services today only.
BMV Mails Excise Tax Refund Notices
Some Hoosiers who have registered vehicles with the state will be getting excise tax refund notices in the mail from the Bureau of Motor Vehicles within the next 30 days. The refunds date back to 2004 and are estimated at $29 million plus interest.
BMV Branches to Close Saturday for Computer Maintenance
The Indiana Office of Technology staff will be working on the state’s computer system on Saturday, June 15. This will cause the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicle branches to close for that day.
Along with the branches, the BMV’s website, www.mybmv.com, will be offline so maintenance can be performed. The website is expected to be offline beginning at 6 a.m. ET on Saturday. The website will be back online when the maintenance is completed.
License branches will resume normal hours of operation on June 17.
Driver Records Available Online for Free
You can now view your driver records online with no fee. A special version of a person’s driver record is available on the Bureau of Motor Vehicle’s website for easy review of items including reinstatement fees, suspensions, citations, violations and other record entities impacting a driver.
