The Knox High School marching band will be heading back down to Indianapolis this weekend, this time to Lucas Oil Stadium for the Indiana State School Music Association Marching Band Finals.

Knox Marching Band One of Four Local Schools Heading to ISSMA Semi-State Competition
Four local high school marching bands will be heading down to Indianapolis tomorrow for the Indiana State School Music Association Open Class Semi-State Marching Band Festival. Students from Bremen, John Glenn, Knox and Plymouth will join 80 other bands from around the state competing to be chosen as one of the 10 bands who will represent their class at the 45th Annual Indiana State Marching Band Finals.
As the sole band representing Starke County, the Knox Band Boosters are asking community members and business owners to put up signs or decorate their windows today to show support for these students. Booster Sandra Redden said the marching band members sacrificed every Saturday since the start of the school year, not to mention band camp during the summer.
She said, in all they have dedicated more than 200 hours of practice to their show entitled Pi 3.14. Friends and family as well as faculty and former band members are encouraged to come out and line Redskin Trail to see the band members off and wish them luck at their performance tomorrow. Pride of Plymouth to Perform in ISSMA Marching Band State Finals
The Pride of Plymouth marching band has advanced to the Indiana State School Music Association State Finals for High School Marching Bands. The state finals will be Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
The Plymouth band will perform in Class B at 10:13 a.m. ET. They will be competing against Greenwood, Dekalb/Waterloo, Floyd Central/Floyds Knobs, Northview/Brazil, New Castle, Plainfield, Jasper, Concord/Elkhart, and Munster.
Area School Musicians Perform Well in Competitions
The North Judson-San Pierre High School Band participated in the annual Indiana State School Music Association Organizational Contest on Friday, April 19th at Northridge High School in Middlebury. They earned a Gold Rating.
The Knox High School Band performed this Saturday, April 13 at Kankakee Valley High School in ISSMA High School Organizational Contest. The band was among 19 bands all with hopes of Gold ratings in both performance and sight reading. Knox received Gold ratings in both performance and sight reading. This caps an amazing winter season for the Instrumental Music and Dance Department where all winter ensembles provided stellar performances at their respective State competitions.
Knox, Plymouth, John Glenn March To 40th Annual ISSMA Competition
Knox, Plymouth and John Glenn marching bands will be participating in the 40th annual ISSMA Marching Band competition season beginning this Saturday, Sept. 29.
One hundred seventy-six high school bands will compete with over 16,000 students in the District competition. Winners will advance to the Regional competition on Oct. 13. The top ten scoring bands from each northern and southern Regional contests will move to the Semi-State level and then to the marching band finals on Nov. 3 in Indianapolis. The state competition will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Knox High School Principal Named To ISSMA Board
Knox High School Principal Dr. Elizabeth Ratliff was recently named to the Indiana State School Music Association Board.
“This group does support marching band competitions, solo and ensemble, jazz band, orchestra – all of those different competitive events that our kids in Knox flourish at,” said Ratliff. “This is the board that helps to organize those events and manage them.”
Ratliff explains how she was chosen for the position on the board.
North Judson-San Pierre High School Band Earns Gold Rating
The North Judson-San Pierre High School Band earned a Gold Performance Rating at the ISSMA. Organizational Concert Contest on April 13th at Lowell High School.
Knox Redskin Brigade Advances to Regional Competition
The Knox Brigade Marching Band will be moving on in the Indiana State Marching Band contest. The band brought home a Gold rating on Saturday to advance to the Chesterton Regional on October 15th.
The theme of the performance is “By the Waters Edge.”
The John Glenn Falcon band also received a Gold rating and will be advancing to the Regional competition.
ISSMA Marching Band Contests Begin Saturday
The 39th Annual Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) marching band season begins with District contests at seven sites Saturday, October 1st.
More than 16,000 students in 168 high schools will participate.
The Regionals are October 15th at four sites, and 10 bands representing four classes will then be selected for the State Finals on October 29th at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
Knox Music and Dance Department Hosts ISSMA Organizational Contest
The Knox Instrumental Music and Dance Department and Knox Community Middle School was host to fifteen middle school bands this past Saturday for the annual Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) Junior High, Middle School and Elementary Organizational Contests. The contest is a chance for bands, orchestras or choirs to perform in front of a panel of judges where they can receive a Gold, Silver, Bronze, or Participant rating. Knox Middle School entered their 7th grade band, conducted by Mr. David Elliott, and 8th grade band, conducted by Mr. Craige Phipps into the competition where they both were awarded Gold ratings.
