The Pulaski County Commissioners are planning to auction some county-owned land. They’re looking to hold a commissioners deed sale on August 1, but before that, they’ll hold a public hearing to set a minimum price and officially schedule the auction. The public hearing will take place Monday, June 11 at 5:30 p.m. at the Pulaski County Highway Garage, before the commissioners’ joint meeting with the county council.

New Waste Removal Service in Winamac Discussed at Winamac Town Council Meeting
The Winamac Town Council recently privatized the waste removal and recycling service and that contract began March 1.
The town conducted the service for a number of years and found that the town could have at last $12,000 a year if the service was conducted by an outside firm.
Winamac Officer Commended for Saving a Life
A Winamac police officer was commended during the Winamac Town Board meeting for saving the life of a resident.
Winamac Town Manager Jim Conner said Police Chief Michael Buchanan gave officer Mark Hoffman a Meritorious Service Award for his actions while on duty.
Winamac Considering Tax Abatement for New Business
The town of Winamac is considering the possibility of tax abatements for a new business in the town. According to Town Manager Jim Conner, the town council responded favorably to the idea, but a public hearing will need to be held in February before any official decision is made. Conner said Antares is a specialty container manufacturing business, a new business for the city, and this abatement could have positive effects for the town.
Conner also said a local boy scout is working on designs for a possible skate park in the town. He said the youth gave the council an update on the project, and with $27,000 raised toward the project, he hopes to have construction done by July. However, he is still looking into a few more possible grants.
Winamac Town Council Holds First Meeting of New Year
The Winamac Town Council this week performed some appointments necessary for the new year, but according to Town Manager Jim Conner, no big changes were made. He said the yearly appointments for the department heads were made with no changes, and several appointments were made to local boards, the planning commission, zoning board and other boards – also with no major changes.
Final Payouts Completed for Water Line Replacement Project in Winamac
The water project in the town of Winamac is finally complete, but Town Manager Jim Conner said there will be a few maintenance items to address come spring. The town council this week approved the final payouts for the water project they’ve been working on this summer and all the work is finally complete.
Town of Winamac Hires Garbage, Recycling Collection Company
The town of Winamac will save roughly $12,000 a year by privatizing the collection of garbage and recycling in the town, according to Town Manager Jim Conner. Conner told WKVI that the town council this week decided to accept a bid from Advanced Disposal Services to provide garbage and recycling services for the town at a cost of $141,408 for the first year.
Pulaski County CDC and Winamac Town Manager Meet with Investors
Pulaski County Community Development Commission Executive Director Nathan Origer and Winamac Town Manager Jim Conner met with potential investors concerning a proposed hotel project on Wednesday.
Conner told WKVI that about 15 potential investors met and learned more about the project and discussed the need for a hotel in the area. Local business and industry leaders expressed that several representatives visit not only the Pulaski County area, but the Knox and Culver areas and it would beneficial to them to see this project become a reality.
Town of Winamac to See Reduced Transfer Station Fees
The town of Winamac will see some relief in their transfer station rates, after a county commissioner approached the town board at their meeting to discuss transfer station fees and other matters. According to Town Manager Jim Conner, the commissioner negotiated a new rate with the board, which came out a bit cheaper than it had been in the past. Conner said this new rate will help with their garbage collection expense and other expenses.
Town of Winamac Reviewing Waste Collection Bids
For the first time in several decades, the town of Winamac is considering the possibility of hiring a private company to collect the town’s garbage. According to Town Manager Jim Conner, the town’s street department has been collecting the garbage and disposing of it, but the town board recently sought bids to determine whether or not a company could perform the work at a lower cost.
