Pulaski County Council Approves Money Transfer for K9s

The Pulaski County Council approved, by a majority vote of 6 to 1, Sheriff Michael Gayer’s request to transfer funds to pay for the two K9s at a cost of $25,165.38.

The payment of the K9s had to be done a different way than initially proposed but Auditor Shelia Garling, the sheriff and representatives from the State Board of accounts told the council that they could take the money out of the user fee of the law enforcement continuous education fund to the continuing education fund.

The dogs are in service with one officer and K9 working the day shift and the other officer and the K9on the night shift to give 24 hours of continuing coverage.

Plymouth Fugitive Treed, Arrested

Police dogs foiled a Plymouth fugitive’s Friday attempt to evade police. Otis Young was wanted for failure to appear on a meth charge as well as on a strangulation charge, according to our news partners at WNDU-TV. Police learned Young was staying at a home in the 11000 block of 19B Road. When they arrived, two men were reportedly fleeing, so officers turned the K9s loose on them. Young climbed a tree in an attempt to escape and ultimately surrendered. Officers found the second man, identified as Danny Clark, hiding in the weeds. An active meth lab was reportedly discovered near the house where the men were staying.

 

Marshall County Sheriff’s Department Goes to the Dogs

K9 Arras joins the Marshall County Sheriff's Department

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department has a new K9.

Arras is a three-year-old Belgian Malinois who was purchased and trained through the Von Liche Kennels in Denver, Ind. Arras is trained as a narcotics detector dog and he is a certified patrol K9 through the North American Working Dog Association. He will be working with patrolman Brandon Cooper and will be available to both the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and local police departments.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department has not had a K9 program in four years. The reinstatement of the program was made possible through a donation from the Lake Maxinkuckee Association.
