Enforcement of the City of Knox truck route has some over-the-road drivers seeking alternate routes to access the industrial park. Mayor Dennis Estok to the board of works yesterday he’s gotten several telephone calls and emails since the stepped-up patrols started earlier this month. He says truckers are going down every side street they can to avoid taking Culver Road to and from the industrial park. Continue reading

Local Officials Dedicate Reconstructed Intersection

Ribbon CuttingStarke County Economic Development Foundation officials yesterday joined business and local government leaders to celebrate the completion of the road through the Knox Industrial Park. Thanks to their combined efforts, the intersection of Klockner Drive is wider between Culver Road and north of Pacific Avenue with new curbs in place. Final Work Scheduled on Klockner Drive Paving Project

roadworkThe final pavement work through the Knox Industrial Park should wrap up in the next few weeks. The contractor for the industrial park road improvement project is back in Knox for the next couple of days placing asphalt on Klockner Drive/300 East, Culver Road, Pacific Avenue and Hamilton Drive. All roads will remain open but will be down to one lane during the paving. Flagmen will direct traffic in the area. Continue reading

Klockner Drive Project Nears Completion Milestone

 
 

Work on Klockner Drive/County Road 300 East to improve access to the Starke County Industrial Park is on track to wrap up before Thanksgiving. Crews will be paving the east side of Klockner from south of Pacific Avenue north to the railroad spur today. Klockner Drive is set to reopen in both directions from Pacific Avenue north to State Road 8 on Monday, Nov. 10. Local traffic will also be able to access Klockner from Pacific Avenue south to just north of Culver Road.

Public Hearing Held on Klockner Road Project

Thirteen citizens turned out last night at the public hearing presentation by engineers for the $2.4 million dollar Klockner Road Project on Knox’s west side.  Most of those in attendance were interested how the project was going to impact their property.

The engineers from Lawson-Fisher Associates of South Bend explained the process for acquisition of property that will total 3.7 acres.

Public Hearing on Proposed Klockner Drive Project This Week

Citizens of Knox and landowners affected by the Klockner Road Project in the Industrial Park will be brought up to date on the proposed work at a meeting Wednesday night to be held at the Henry F. Schricker Library in Knox.

According to Starke County Development Director Charles Weaver, the road was designed as a rural thoroughfare and was never meant to carry the truck traffic now using it.

Public Hearing on Klockner Drive Construction Scheduled for Next Week

A public hearing has been scheduled to gain opinions on current design plans for the Starke County Commissioners’ project to reconstruct a portion of County Road 300 East, or Klockner Drive, in the Knox Industrial Park.

The proposed improvements include the reconstruction of County Road 300 East between Culver Road to north Pacific Avenue. The project proposes installation of new pavement, concrete curb and gutter, storm sewer collection, driveway and approach work. The project will be constructed in three phases and impacts 33 parcels and will require the acquisition of 3.4 acres of right-of-way.
