Final Work Scheduled on Klockner Drive Paving Project

roadworkThe final pavement work through the Knox Industrial Park should wrap up in the next few weeks. The contractor for the industrial park road improvement project is back in Knox for the next couple of days placing asphalt on Klockner Drive/300 East, Culver Road, Pacific Avenue and Hamilton Drive. All roads will remain open but will be down to one lane during the paving. Flagmen will direct traffic in the area. Continue reading

IU Health Starke Hospital intends to renew its lease with the county for the current facility. President Craig Felty told the council and commissioners Monday a formal notice will be forthcoming in 30 to 60 days. A Knox artist was the guest of honor last night at an art gallery in Munster. The latest “Just Around the Corner on the South Shore Line” poster by Mitch Markovitz celebrates the Chicago Blackhawks sports dynasty. He was commissioned by CEO Andy Arnold of Precision Controls of Griffith to do a poster painting entitled “Let’s Go Hawks” to commemorate the team. Continue reading

Knox Library Branch Closed for Parking Lot Paving

The Henry F. Schricker Public Library branch in Knox is closed today and tomorrow to accommodate the parking lot repair and expansion project. Rain on Tuesday postponed the project. Library officials say the contractors will be able to work more quickly and get the project done sooner if they are closed. Safety for library users and children walking over from school is also a priority. Continue reading

WKVI Spearheads Community Clean-Up

depotWKVI is teaming up with former Knox Mayor Nancy Dembowski to clean up the community. Appropriately we are starting with the first thing everybody sees when the roll into town, the Train Depot visitor center across from Wythogan Park.

This week on Wednesday, join us at the depot from 4 until 6 pm equipped with your gloves, rakes, shovels and any other items that will assist with the clean up. Judge Accepts Plea, Sentences Criminal Confinement Defendant

 The Knox man who handcuffed and shackled his wife to their coffee table while wielding a knife was sentenced to 10 years in prison, despite the victim’s protest that his punishment is too harsh. Starke Circuit Judge Kim Hall accepted a plea from 37-year-old Benny Giselbach to charges of escape, criminal confinement and resisting arrest. All three stem from an April 15th incident at his Bass Lake area home. Continue reading

Knox School Board Reaffirms Support for Programs

Knox-School-Board-2014With the meeting room packed with parents, teachers, and band and athletic fans, the Knox School Board, late yesterday afternoon, assured those patrons it had no intent to “do away” with any particular extracurricular activity in its 2016 budget cutting efforts.

Social media had been reporting all day that budget support of certain programs was scheduled to be drastically reduced or completely removed from the schedule of activities at the scheduled work session.
