IU Health Urgent Care Facility Available in LifePlex
If you are currently between primary care physicians or need to receive medical attention for any reason there is a local facility available to you. Lisa Jones with IU Health shared the details with WKVI, “We have urgent care in the LifePlex building and we do feel like its a secret that not many know about. Knox Town-Wide Yard Sales Scheduled for September
The City of Knox has another set of town-wide yard sales scheduled for September 19th and 20th. Anyone within city limits or on the outskirts is permitted to participate. Knox Artist Set to Unveil Chicago Blackhawks South Shore Line Poster
A Knox artist recently completed a South Shore Line poster to celebrate a sports dynasty. Mitch Markovitz was commissioned last year by CEO Andy Arnold of Precision Controls of Griffith to do a poster painting entitled “Let’s Go Hawks.” It’s the latest work in the “Just Around the Corner on the South Shore Line” series. Murder Trial on Schedule in Starke Circuit Court
Gary Chavez is charged with murder, kidnapping and carjacking in Starke County. Investigators say he killed Kimberly Chavez of Portage on June 6th, drove his personal vehicle to Mark Bailey’s Discount Center on State Road 10 and kidnapped an employee. From there Chavez allegedly drove to English Lake where he’s accused of stealing another vehicle at gunpoint. Continue reading
Arson Defendant Comes to Court Late Without an Attorney
A Knox man whose business burned under suspicious circumstances in March of 2014 is still looking for an attorney to represent him in his upcoming arson trial. James Campbell’s two defense attorneys withdrew from his case in early June, citing nonpayment for legal services. He’s accused of setting fire to Starke County Recycling at the corner of U.S. 35 and Toto Road. The jury in Campbell’s March arson trial was unable to reach a verdict after 12 hours of deliberations. Knox Fireworks Gate Fees Exceed 2014 Total
City of Knox Independence Day fireworks gate fees, at the Starke County Airport, totaled $3,660, topping the $3,100 total from 2014. Knox Mayor Rick Chambers told the City Council when it met Tuesday evening, that the top total was the 2009 event, which was $3,750. Continue reading
Judge Resets Sentencing for Attempted Murder Defendant
Starke Circuit Judge Kim Hall has reset the sentencing hearing for an attempted murder defendant with a fuzzy memory to give his attorneys more time to draft a stipulation agreement. It will detail the facts as defendant Benton Christopher Howard, 42, remembers them as to what happened at a home in the Parkview Heights area of Knox last Nov. 30. Howard is accused of critically stabbing Brandon Davidson, damaging his heart and collapsing his lung. He is set to plead guilty to a lesser battery offense. Continue reading

The Knox City Council has approved a 2-percent salary increase for employees in 2016. Council members and members of the Planning Commission, and the Zoning and Park Boards, dog catcher and crossing guard are not included in the increase. Continue reading

A Knox man who pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance will serve two years on probation for the offense. Final Salary Ordinance Approval on Knox Council Agenda
The Knox City Council has a meeting scheduled for tonight at 7 pm in City Hall. The Council will have their final reading of the 2016 Salary Ordinance. Treasurer Jeff Houston said this is in preparation for an upcoming budget hearing, “We have a budget meeting with the field representative from the Department of Local Government Finance on the 27th of July.” he said. Knox United Methodist Church Welcomes New Pastor
Newly appointed pastor Dr. Dean Fager will preach his first message to the congregation of the Knox United Methodist Church tomorrow morning. The worship service begins at 9:16 a.m.
“I’m really excited about being here in Knox, not because everything is wonderful and great, but simply because of people that I’ve met so far indicate to me that this is a community that cares,” Fager said. “I’m looking forward to being part of a community that’s a caring community that looks for one another, that seeks to make others better. I’m really looking forward to my time in Knox.”
Kid’s Closet Ministry Hosts School Supply Drive for Local Students
Kids Closet Ministry is a local organization that benefits Starke County children in need. Not only do they provide clothes and shoes to kids all year long but they also annually provide school supplies to students who cannot afford them. Plenty of summer break is still left but students will be returning to school next month. Today they will have stations posted in front of local stores across the county. Continue reading
IU Health Starke Hospital’s Bistro 35 Offers Healthy Meal Options
Bistro 35 at IU Health Starke Hospital is open for business. President Craig Felty says the first floor eatery is run by the hospital’s food and nutrition department and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
“We have an actual grill area with probably about 15 to 20 different items on there,” Felty said. “We have a cold case that’s got cold sandwiches and stuff like that you can just grab and go if you need to. We also have a really nice salad bar that’s got a lot of healthy choices.”
Bistro 35 opened in May, but Felty says they recently added a new option. Continue reading
