LaPorte County is keeping its mask mandate through the end of April. County Health Officer Dr. Sandra Deausy officially extended the mask requirement through April 30 in a health order Thursday.

It’s part of a new order from the county health officer taking effect Monday, in response to the surge in COVID-19 cases. The order also requires bars and restaurants to close by midnight and bans karaoke.

Starting Friday, the LaPorte County Health Department is ordering everyone to wear a face covering when they’re in an indoor area that’s open to the public or an outdoor area where six feet of distance from individuals outside of their households can’t be maintained.

Four Suffer from Influenza A Virus at LaPorte County Fair
Four people were sickened at the LaPorte County Fair after reportedly coming in direct contact with swine.
Confirmed test results on patient specimens indicate the cause as a variant influenza A virus. Influenza virus specimens from swine also tested positive for this virus.
