LaPorte Authorities Arrest One Following Multiple Gunshots
LaPorte County Sheriff’s Police were called to a residence Wednesday evening following reports of gunfire.
Officers arrived on scene to the 8400 East block of Emory Road. While securing the scene, another gunshot was allegedly heard coming from the home. Deputies made entry to the home through an open door.

LaPorte Police are searching for a suspect after an armed robbery over the weekend.
According to information provided by the police department, the incident occurred in the 100 block of East Lincolnway on Saturday morning. Officers arrived on scene several minutes before 3:00 a.m. to the gas station.
31 Tires Slashed at LaPorte Tow Yard
LaPorte Police are investigating after several vehicles saw their tires slashed on Friday evening.
According to information provided by the police department, officers were called to the 200 block of Lincolnway around 8:20 p.m. on Friday. Investigators found that 31 tires were slashed on 12 different cars. These vehicles were now taken to an auto shop to replace all car tires.

A Union Mills man was arrested on Sunday when police allegedly located cocaine during a search of his person.
LaPorte Police officers were patrolling the area of 800 Clay Street when they spotted 25-year-old Stephen Murphy. He was said to be sitting on the front steps of the residence around 5:00 p.m. that afternoon.
Investigation Ongoing After LaPorte Fire Station Burglarized
A rural LaPorte County fire station is missing some equipment following a burglary.
The incident occurred at Coolspring Township Station #2 – that’s located on Shebel Road near County Road 100 North. LaPorte County Sheriff’s investigators say the fire station is unmanned and in a remote location.

Video Surveillance Obtained in Mysterious 911 Call in LaPorte County
The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department says they have found further evidence in the case of a mysterious phone call received on Friday.
That phone call was thought to be a woman claiming she needed help at a LaPorte County Harley-Davidson store. Investigators believe they heard a male voice in the background in what they called a “disturbance” at the time.

LaPorte Sheriff’s Deputies took a man into custody after a standoff where the subject was allegedly making suicidal threats.
According to information released by the department, the 31-year-old suspect became upset following a custody battle with his wife over their 2-year-old son. The mother was given custody of the child earlier in the day.

Armed Robbery Under Investigation in LaPorte County
An armed robbery near the LaPorte/Porter county line is being investigated by the Sheriff’s Department.
According to a news release, the incident happened this morning around 5:30 a.m. at Gallop’s Marathon. A 59-year-old truck driver told authorities he was sitting in the cab of his semi-truck when the suspect opened the door and pointed a gun at the victim.
LaPorte Jail Inmate Pronounced Dead, Investigation Ongoing
The death of an inmate at the LaPorte County Jail is prompting an investigation.
The female inmate was found unresponsive by authorities around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday. CPR was applied, but was unable to resuscitate the victim. Her name has now been released by the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department. 33-year-old Rachel Barnes was described as the victim.
LaPorte Police Investigating Child’s Suspicious Encounter
More information is being sought by LaPorte Police for an incident that occurred last Thursday.
Officers say a 9-year-old boy was in the area of D Street and West 11th Street around 7:30 p.m. when two men in a van approached him.
