Better water quality may soon be coming to some local lakes, thanks to the latest round of Lake and River Enhancement grants from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. Koontz Lake was awarded $100,000 and Lake Maxinkuckee got over $46,000 for wetland enhancement. Lake Bruce was awarded almost $47,000 for water quality monitoring.

A number of local lakes are set to get some investment, thanks to the latest round of Lake and River Enhancement grants from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. Bruce Lake in Fulton and Pulaski counties was awarded more than $32,000 for sediment removal.

A few local lakes will be getting improvements, thanks to the latest round of Lake and River Enhancement grants from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. Bruce Lake received over $106,000 for sediment removal and another $6,440 to control invasive plants. Koontz Lake was awarded over $36,000 and Bass Lake got $6,500, both for invasive vegetation management.

The state is now accepting grant applications for projects aimed at improving waterways, as well as trail development. Applications for Lake and River Enhancement grants are due to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources by January 15.

More than a quarter of a million dollars in new grants have been awarded through the Lake and River Enhancement program as part of the DNR Division of Fish and Wildlife. The LARE program looks to fund biological, engineering, construction and watershed land treatment projects throughout the state, and to that end, they have awarded $768,500 in grants for the care of Indiana’s water bodies.
