Pulaski County Commissioners Reorganize, Hire New Recycling Center Director
The Pulaski County Commissioners reorganized to start 2015 where Larry Brady was retained as commission president while Terry Young was appointed as vice president. Bud Krohn, Jr. attended his first meeting as a commissioner Monday night.
The commissioners made several appointments to boards. Mark Fox was retained as supervisor of county highways, Dave Dare was retained as building inspector, Ed Fleury was retained as veteran service officer, Jeff Johnston as maintenance director and Sarah Kasten was retained as animal control officer.
County Home to be Considered as a National Historic Landmark
In a meeting set for this afternoon, the Pleasant View Rest Home will be up for consideration to be placed on the list of historic landmarks.
Officials with the Division of State Historic Preservation and Archaeology will review written comments submitted by supporters and non-supporters of the county home for nomination for placement into the National Register of Historic Places.
Pulaski County Commissioners Offer Comment on Military Vehicle Use
The Pulaski County Commissioners were asked by a citizen to address their thoughts on the use and ownership of military vehicles in the county. That update was given at the commissioner’s meeting Monday night.
EMA Director Larry Hoover was present and stated that there were no dollars spent to get these vehicles. The only money spent was for manpower and fuel to get the vehicles and bring them to Pulaski County. As Sheriff Michael Gayer explained to the Pulaski County Council members last week, fuel was spent out of his budget and no additional tax money was used in the acquisition of the military vehicles.
Pulaski Commissioners Reorganize County Home Board
The Pulaski County Commissioners this week reorganized the county home board, appointing eight people to the board after receiving a number of applications. Commissioner Larry Brady said the commissioners met last week in an executive session to review the county home board, and some of the questions asked of applicants was how they see the county home in the future, past work experience, education, party affiliation, organizational skill sets, strengths and weaknesses.
Pulaski County Commissioners Hear Good Mid-Year Health Insurance Report
The Pulaski County Commissioners heard a presentation about the county’s health insurance from representatives from Cigna and the Bennett Insurance Agency.
Overall, the numbers looked good and Commission President Larry Brady explained the county is saving money in working with the insurance company to spread health awareness.
Pulaski County Seeking Members for Rest Home Advisory Board
The Pulaski County Auditor’s Office is looking for interested members of the community to apply for a position on the Pleasant View Rest Home Advisory Board after it was discovered that the board had been established outside of the requirements of state statute. President of the commissioners Larry Brady explained that the board consists of seven members and was established in 2006, but it never went to the council for approval and it does not conform to state standards.
Pulaski Commissioners Publicly Apologize to County Employee
The Pulaski County Commissioners this week offered a public apology to an employee who had undergone a traumatically embarrassing experience, after the commissioners had acted on some erroneous information. Commissioner Larry Brady read aloud a statement from the commissioners, apologizing to Christine Chapman and her family for any embarrassment suffered from “events involving her” last week.
Pulaski County May Replace 8 Computers Soon
Microsoft has announced that Windows XP will no longer be supported as of April 8, leaving a vast number of computers still using the software without customer support, including at least 21 computers used by Pulaski County government employees. President of the commissioners Larry Brady told WKVI that they approved the purchase of eight new computers for the auditor’s and assessor’s offices at a cost of $799 each to allow the employees to continue to receive customer support through Microsoft.
Monterey Bridge Opens to Traffic
The Monterey bridge, or bridge 291, is now open to traffic.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Friday afternoon to officially open the bridge that had been under construction since March. The project had been on the drawing board for several years.
Commissioner Larry Brady attended the ribbon cutting ceremony and was happy with the work of all involved.
Pulaski Commissioners Hear EMS Update
The Pulaski County Commissioners this week heard a report from Nikki Lowry with the Pulaski County EMS. Lowry said her department is all caught up on past due accounts, and they are doing a cost assessment to get more reimbursements from Medicaid.
Pulaski Commissioners Discuss Speed Limit on County Road
The Pulaski County Commissioners this week tabled a discussion regarding a request to more strongly enforce the speed limit on County Road 950 South. Chris Bojcev approached the commissioners and explained that he has been having problems with the road that he lives near for some time, and now that the road has been paved, the problems have only increased.
