Starke United Fund Launches Capital Campaign
The Starke United Fund supports initiatives that promote financial stability and independence, programs that help children and youth succeed and projects that strengthen and support families and improve the health of our community. Each year, members with the Starke United Fund work to create long-lasting change by addressing the underlying issues in our community and empowering citizens.
Starke United works in collaboration with various other agencies and members of the community. Last year thanks to generous donations, nearly $30,000 was granted to many of Starke County’s non-profit organizations. Lilly Endowment Offers Starke County Community Foundation Matching Opportunity
Donors to the Starke County Community Foundation can double their support to the community funds. Lilly Endowment, Inc. has agreed to match donations dollar-for-dollar up to $250,000 for the next 18 months. Starke County Community Foundation Development Director Sarah Origer said no gift is too small.

Ancilla College Receives $1 Million Lilly Endowment Grant
Indiana’s only private, Associate’s Degree granting college has been awarded a $1 million Lilly Endowment grant. Ancilla College received one of 39 such grants provided by the Endowment to the state’s accredited colleges and universities as part of its Initiative to Expand Opportunities Through Educational Collaborations. The grants, totaling $62.7 million, will provide a significant boost to the schools’ efforts to enhance and expand opportunities for college graduates to find meaningful employment in Indiana.
North Judson-San Pierre High School Teacher Awarded $10,000 Grant
A North Judson-San Pierre High School science teacher has been announced as one recipient of the Teacher Creativity Fellowship Program grant, giving her $10,000 to fund a personally-renewing and intellectually-revitalizing project.
Teacher Donna Keller said she will be using the money to travel across the country studying biodiversity with the intent of bringing back loads of information to better engage her students in the learning process.
Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Applications Available
Applications for the Starke County Community Foundation Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship
are now available in local high school guidance offices. This scholarship is for Starke County Seniors who will be graduating by the end of June 2013.
The scholarship offers a four-year full-ride tuition to any Indiana college. The recipient must be beginning college in the fall of 2013 as a full time student. The scholarship committee will select the nominee and alternates for the scholarship, then they will send the nominations to Independent Colleges of Indiana before a completely separate panel will make the final decision on the 2013 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship recipient.
The decision is based on academic performance, community service, service at work and school, application essays, and a personal interview. The deadline for the application is Jan. 25.
