Starke County Election Board Finalizes Ballots
The ballots are set for the Nov. 3 General Elections in Starke County. Voters in the towns of North Judson and Hamlet will elect clerk-treasurers. In North Judson, Republican incumbent Donna Henry has drawn a challenge from Democrat Alicia (Amidei) Collins. North Judson voters will also choose between incumbent Republican Wendy Hoppe and Democrat Joan Haugh for the Ward 2 town council seat. Democrat Ward 1 incumbent Jane Ellen Felchuk and Republican Ward 3 candidate Nathan Bradley are both unopposed. Continue reading
Starke County Election Board to Finalize Ballots Today
Starke County Election Board members will finalize ballots for the November General Election when they meet today. Knox, North Judson and Hamlet will all have municipal elections on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Also voters who reside in Jackson, Wayne, California, and Railroad Townships will weigh in on the proposed North Judson-San Pierre Schools general fund referendum. The proposed North Judson-San Pierre School Corporation budget has been slashed considerably over the past several years. Corporation business manager and treasurer Guy Richie told the county council during last week’s budget hearing that revenue continues to decline due to changes in state funding and drops in enrollment. Athletic director duties at North Judson-San Pierre will be split between two existing administrators this year in an effort to save money. Kid’s Closet Places Third in National Contest
Kid’s Closet, which collects clothing and school supplies for kids in Starke County, has received $6,500 after finishing third in an online poll. WKVI Spearheads Community Clean-Up
WKVI is teaming up with former Knox Mayor Nancy Dembowski to clean up the community. Appropriately we are starting with the first thing everybody sees when the roll into town, the Train Depot visitor center across from Wythogan Park.
This week on Wednesday, join us at the depot from 4 until 6 pm equipped with your gloves, rakes, shovels and any other items that will assist with the clean up. Political Action Committee Forming for N.J.-S.P. Tax Referendum
Political efforts are beginning to mobilize in the North Judson – San Pierre area.
The school corporation has authorized a referendum to appear on the November General Election ballot that would raise the property tax levy. According to officials with the school corporation, funds raised will help maintain key services without reductions in staff or cuts to student activities.

North Judson Republicans to Caucus
Plans are being developed after it was learned the Town of North Judson will be hosting a Town Convention.
The decision was handed down by the Starke County Clerk’s office after Jesiah Clemons’ paperwork to run for the North Judson Town Council’s Ward 2 seat as an Independent was rejected. Clemons had previously filed to run as a Republican for the seat, which was accepted by the County Clerk’s office.

Starke United Fund Launches Capital Campaign
The Starke United Fund supports initiatives that promote financial stability and independence, programs that help children and youth succeed and projects that strengthen and support families and improve the health of our community. Each year, members with the Starke United Fund work to create long-lasting change by addressing the underlying issues in our community and empowering citizens.
Starke United works in collaboration with various other agencies and members of the community. Last year thanks to generous donations, nearly $30,000 was granted to many of Starke County’s non-profit organizations. Starke United works very hard to assist as many people as possible, but they can’t do it alone. As the 2015 Starke United Fund Campaign kicks off, you are asked to join in and lend a hand.
