A Plymouth man was arrested on drug charges Sunday after a traffic stop on U.S. 30 east of West County Line Road.
A Marshall County Sheriff’s Department deputy pulled over a vehicle driven by 41-year-old Jason R. Baker for an equipment violation. K9 Officer Brandon Cooper brought his K9 Arras and the dog indicated that narcotics were in the vehicle.
An investigation into a stillbirth in Porter County has led to the arrest of a Marshall County man.
On Oct. 4, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department received information that a juvenile female gave birth to a stillborn child and an investigation found that the juvenile had a sexual relationship with a 55-year-old Marshall County man. The cause of death of the stillborn child remains under investigation.
Charles Barber was arrested at a Marshall County residence on charges of Sexual Misconduct with a Minor and his bond has been set at $50,000 cash.
This case remains under investigation with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.
A Plymouth man has been charged in an alleged child molestation case.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department received a complaint in July that a juvenile was reportedly molested at a Union Road address in Marshall County.
A tense four-hour standoff in Marshall County came to a peaceful conclusion as a man threatened self-immolation in the driveway of his home.
Around 1 p.m. on Thursday, Marshall County police, fire department, and EMS were dispatched to a home on 11B Road just outside of Plymouth, where a man had soaked himself in gasoline before barricading himself in his driveway. He used old lawn mowers and mopeds to form a blockade around himself as he clutched a large lighter, threatening to burn himself alive.
A Plymouth woman was arrested after a three-vehicle accident in Marshall County Saturday afternoon.
Marshall County Sheriff’s officers responded to the scene in downtown Lapaz and found that Caitlin Masterson, 27, was traveling southbound on U.S. 31 and was going to turn left when she pulled into the path of a vehicle driven by 53-year-old Ibro Pucar of South Bend. His car then hit another vehicle exiting the parking lot. He received minor injuries in the accident.
An Argos woman was critically injured after being involved in a motorcycle accident in Marshall County Friday morning.
A witness to the accident, Deborah Harley of Walkerton, told Marshall County Police officers that she was traveling north on U.S. 31 while behind Lynne E. Brown of Argos, who was driving a motorcycle in the passing lane approaching 14 C Road. Harley said she saw a deer running from the west and started slowing down to avoid the deer. According to Harley, Brown did not slow and ran into the deer as it was crossing the highway.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department investigated a motorcycle accident at Peach Road and 19th Road on Sunday.
The driver of the motorcycle, 44-year-old Terrance A. Robins of Plymouth, was traveling on Peach Road when a deer entered his path and he was unable to avoid the collision. During the course of the investigation, police learned Robbins did not have insurance on the motorcycle or a motorcycle endorsement.
A Marshall County man was arrested after police found a meth lab in his car.
Marshall County police received a call that a man was asleep in his car in the parking lot at Lincoln Highway and Queen Road. Officers made contact with the driver, Mark Selner. Police reportedly searched Selner and found that he was in possession of a controlled substance. Upon further investigation, Selner also had an illegal drug lab in the car along with several stolen items.
Marshall County police took Selner into custody and he was booked into the Marshall County Jail on several drug related charges and he is facing Theft charges for the stolen property.
An 18-year-old Plymouth man was arrested after he reportedly got into an accident while driving a stolen vehicle.
Early Saturday morning, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department received a phone call of a rollover accident on State Road 10 near Beech Road. The caller also reported that the driver was walking from the scene. Deputies found Steven L. Cogswell walking in the roadway and he was found to be intoxicated. Cogswell denied driving the vehicle.
Marshall County Police arrested two for battery in two separate incidents early Sunday morning.
Deputies were called to the Inwood Mobile Home Park where they discovered James R. Mulcare, 33, of Inwood had battered a woman at the residence. Mulcare was taken into custody and booked into the Marshall County Jail on a preliminary charge of Battery Resulting in Bodily Injury.
Later that morning, Plymouth police and Marshall County Sheriff’s deputies were called to Club Omega on a call of battery. After an investigation, police learned that Joseph T. Rodriguez of Plymouth allegedly hit another man at the club. He had left the area and was later found at the Mayflower Tavern. He was arrested on a preliminary charge of Battery Resulting in Bodily Injury.
Arthur Lawrence of Plymouth was arrested Thursday, Oct. 4 after Marshall County deputies responded to his residence with an active arrest warrant for Dealing/Delivering/Manufacturing Methamphetamine. A search warrant was also executed where officers found more narcotics, several “one pot” meth labs, meth, and meth paraphernalia
The Indiana State Police Clandestine Lab Team was called to the home in the 1700 block of Ritter Street in Plymouth and took possession of all of the hazardous materials.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department has a new K9.
Arras is a three-year-old Belgian Malinois who was purchased and trained through the Von Liche Kennels in Denver, Ind. Arras is trained as a narcotics detector dog and he is a certified patrol K9 through the North American Working Dog Association. He will be working with patrolman Brandon Cooper and will be available to both the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and local police departments.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department has not had a K9 program in four years. The reinstatement of the program was made possible through a donation from the Lake Maxinkuckee Association.
A wanted fugitive out of the state of Delaware was found in Marshall County.
On Saturday, authorities from Sussex County in Delaware notified the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department that one of their inmates had escaped work release and was possibly headed to an address in Marshall County.
After an investigation, Marshall County detectives, deputies and dispatchers were able to locate Michael Derogitas in the 11000 block of Muckshaw Road and took him into custody. He is being held in the Marshall County Jail awaiting extradition back to Delaware.
Two Lapaz residents were recently arrested on fraud charges after using a credit card that belonged to another Lapaz resident.
The victim told police that some unknown people entered her vehicle and stole her purse. The suspects had used the credit cards in the wallet to make purchases at several local establishments. Surveillance footage was obtained by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and Nicole Martin and Justin Haining were identified as using the stolen credit cards.
They were located and arrested on preliminary charges of Theft, Fraud and Forgery.
A Tippecanoe man was injured in a single vehicle accident in the early morning hours on Saturday.
Andrew N. Meloy, 22, was driving westbound on State Road 10 east of State Road 331 in Marshall County when a small animal ran in front of the vehicle. Meloy told Marshall County police that he swerved right, then back left, lost control and ran off the road. He was injured but refused medical attention.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department has announced they will be stepping up efforts in cracking down on impaired drivers in their area, alongside law enforcement throughout the nation for the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign Aug. 17 to Sept. 3.
The nationwide effort will include high-visibility enforcement, high-profile events, and will be supported by national paid advertising to create a comprehensive campaign to curb alcohol impaired driving in August and through the Labor Day holiday weekend. Police will be aggressively looking for impaired drivers during the campaign and will arrest anyone caught driving impaired.
A 46-year-old Argos man was killed this weekend in a fatal moped accident.
Marshall County Coroner Bill Cleavenger says Jack R. Moriarty was fatally injured Saturday evening when his moped left the roadway and struck a farm fence post. Moriarty was not wearing a helmet and was killed instantly when his moped struck the post at 7:36 p.m., ejecting him from the bike.
Cleavenger attributed the cause of death to blunt force trauma. The family was notified shortly after the accident.
The accident remains under investigation by the Argos Police Department and Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, and toxicology reports are pending. Argos Fire and EMS Departments also assisted at the scene.
Five juveniles were detained by officers of the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department on suspicion of burglary, theft, criminal mischief, and criminal trespass.
On Sunday morning at 5:42 a.m., a caller notified the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department that juveniles were reportedly driving on golf carts at the Plymouth Rock Golf Course.
Two serious accidents were investigated by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department Saturday.
At 6 a.m., the Sheriff’s Department received information about a single vehicle crash on the Plymouth-LaPorte Trail east of W. County Line Road. The vehicle driven by 21-year-old Andrew M. Hillman was traveling northbound and entered a curve and just barely went off the road. Hillman then over-corrected, went into a skid, left the roadway and struck a tree. Hillman sustained injuries in the accident and was transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend for treatment. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this accident.
A Plymouth man riding a motorcycle at high speeds was injured in a crash in Marshall County early Wednesday morning.
A Marshall County Sheriff’s deputy saw a motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed on Lincoln Highway west of Rose Road. The officer attempted to catch up to the driver as he continued at a high rate of speed.
