It’s time to “fall back in the fall.” Dayling Saving Time ends early tomorrowmorning, so be sure to set your clocks back one hour before going to bed Saturday night. State Fire Marshal Jim Greeson says it’s also a good time to change batteries in smoke alarms and remove dust from the front of the devices. Culver Library Fundraising Group Seeks Donations for Defibrillator Purchase
The Culver Union Township Public Library is attempting to purchase a potentially life-saving device for their facility.
According to information provided by officials with the library, their fundraising arm: Friends of the Library approached them about possibly buying an Automated External Defibrillator, or AED.
Sen. Donnelly Highlights Federal Progress with Pain Prescription Abuse
U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly is touting efforts designed to curb prescription opioid abuse and drug addiction.
The Senator has been working for the past two years to find solutions: not only to Indiana’s addiction problems, but drug problems across the nation. Appearing via conference call with U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, Donnelly says training medical doctors with better prescribing practices could go a long way.

The Indiana Department of Transportation is urging political candidates and their supporters to prevent road signs from blocking traffic visibility. According to INDOT, intersections, interchanges, and right-of-ways that run along a road should not be utilized for political yard signs.
Construction Progressing on Culver Water Treatment Facility
Construction is moving along for the Town of Culver’s new Water Treatment Facility.
An update was provided to Council members from the engineers overseeing the project during Tuesday night’s Culver Town Council meeting. The Town issued bonds for the $2.2-million project, and received funding from the Culver Redevelopment Commission to complete the work.

Indiana Prepares for First River Otter Trapping Season
River otters will be in season in Indiana for the first time in years starting this November.
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says the otters were reintroduced about 20 years ago, but have been protected as a way to help grow their population. Biologists recently assessed that river otter numbers are sufficiently large to allow trapping.

According to their agenda, Culver will bring an “Unsafe Buildings” ordinance to second and third reading. The ordinance passed first reading earlier this month.
BMV Amends Hours to Accommodate Elections
Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles license branches will adjust their hours next Monday and Tuesday in order to accommodate prospective voters. They will be open from 8:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2 and from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3. During those times license branches will only process new, amended or replacement ID card and driver’s license or learner permit applications. New driver’s licenses and learner permits will only be processed if the customer has already completed the required testing. Continue reading

The Starke County Museum and county historian Ed Hasnerl recently hosted a roundtable meeting of county historians. Jeanette Rooney is the Assistant Director for local history services at the Indiana Historical society.
