LaPorte City Police Department officers are investigating a stabbing incident that occurred in the 900 block of Pennsylvania Avenue in LaPorte. When officers arrived on scene, a 23-year-old female, a 55-year-old female and a 63-year-old female inside were all suffering from stab wounds.
Chicago Man Arrested in LaPorte County on Cocaine Charges
A Chicago man is in the LaPorte County Jail after police arrested him on cocaine charges.
The LaPorte County Metro Operations Unit learned that a large shipment of cocaine was destined for LaPorte County. Investigators rapidly gathered information and learned that the shipment was to be delivered to a retail parking lot in Michigan City via automobile. Investigators from the Michigan City Street Crimes Unit, the DEA and Metro operations detectives began surveillance and the targeted suspect vehicle was located and stopped in a parking lot. Police came upon the vehicle and a Michigan City K9 alerted to drugs in a compartment in the vehicle. Investigators conducted a search and found one kilogram of cocaine inside the compartment. Officers also seized more than $30,000 in United States currency.
Indiana State Prison to Celebrate Sesquicentennial
The Indiana State Prison in Michigan City is having a Sesquicentennial Celebration on Thursday, December 9th in the facility’s Religious Services Center at 9:00 a.m. CT.
The Indiana State Prison is home to nearly 1,800 maximum security adult males and 300 minimum security males. The State Prison was established in 1860 as the second state prison in Indiana. The Prison Board purchased 100 acres of land from Chauncey Blair for $4,500 in 1860 and the first 100 inmates from Jeffersonville, Indiana were housed in a temporary brick building surrounded by a wooden fence.
