N.J.-S.P. Board Authorizes Budget Submission

 
 

The North Judson-San Pierre School Corporation’s annual budget hearing before the Starke County Council will take place during their Sept. 12th meeting. The school board last week authorized the submission of the budget to the council for review. They also approved the advertisement of the 2017-19 capital projects and bus replacement plan in “The Leader” and the “Pulaski County Journal.” State law requires it be published in both counties since townships from both comprise the school corporation. N.J.-S.P. Board Approves Optional Elementary School Relocation

The North Judson-San Pierre School Board is keeping options open with regard to the future of the elementary school building. It’s currently a kindergarten-6th grade school with 513 students enrolled. The board has discussed moving the elementary school into the now-vacant middle school building at the end of the current school year. Continue reading

N.J.-S.P. Board Seeks Public Input on Elected v. Appointed Board

BluejayThe North Judson-San Pierre School Board wants more input from the public before making a final decision about whether future boards should be elected or appointed. They’ve posted a N.J.-S.P. Community School Board Input Google survey on their website to gauge input from all residents of the district. Those without computer access will be able to complete it at the junior/senior high school media center on Aug. 31 from 6 until 7 p.m. and Sept. 6 from 7 until 8 a.m. It will remain on the site through Sunday, Sept. 18th. N.J.-S.P. School Board to Meet at High School Tonight

The North Judson-San Pierre School Board will announce tonight what process they might favor in terms of transitioning from an appointed to an elected board. Members conducted a work session last month with representatives of the Bluejay Nation Pride group and their attorney to discuss the process. Elected school board advocate Matt Bailey says that group is prepared to move forward next month with the necessary petition to bring the question to the voters if the school board does not act. N.J.-S.P. Revises Contract With The Crossing

The CrossingThe North Judson-San Pierre School Board last week approved an amended agreement with The Crossing alternative school. The Knox-based campus opened in 2014 and was billed as an option for students who have been expelled from or dropped out of public school or who have otherwise fallen through the cracks to complete high school. N.J.-S.P. Superintendent Backtracks on Elementary School Closure

The North Judson-San Pierre School Board will revisit plans to close the current elementary school building at a future meeting, according to Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin. It will open as a kindergarten-6th grade facility when school starts next week following action by the board at a special-called May 9th meeting. N.J.-S.P. Maintenance Staff Prepares for Incoming Students

The reconfigured North Judson-San Pierre Schools are almost ready for students, according to information shared with the school board Tuesday night. Director of Facilities Wilbur Collins says the original coolers in the high school cafeteria have been replaced, and a new rubber roof with a 15-year warranty is now in place over the high school office. The roof it flat, and that is a perennial problem spot. Continue reading

The Oregon-Davis School Corporation has officially signed on to an updated agreement to share a speech pathologist with North Judson-San Pierre. According to the revised memorandum of understanding, Oregon-Davis will cover 30 percent of the cost, while N.J.-S.P. will pay the rest. Continue reading
