N.J.-S.P. Defers Request for Reduction in Force List

BluejayThe North Judson-San Pierre School Corporation has yet to release the names of the 24 staff members who are being eliminated or reassigned as part of a “right-sizing” of the corporation. The cuts announced and approved at the Tuesday, March 15 meeting include a termination of seven certified employees, an adjustment in contract for three certified employees, and a termination in employment for 14 non-certified personnel. N.J.-S.P. Elaborates on Staff Cuts

North Judson-San Pierre Admin buildingNorth Judson-San Pierre Superintendent Dr. Bob Boyd has elaborated on staffing cuts approved Tuesday by the school board to “right size” the corporation. He says the reductions in personnel include 10 certified teachers, four of whom are general elementary school classroom teachers. Another three are special education teachers, and three more are certified support personnel. Boyd stresses no educational programs will be cut as a result of the reductions. Continue reading

N.J.-S.P. Board to Discuss Right Sizing Plans Tonight

NJ-SP School Board 2015-2016The North Judson-San Pierre School Board will discuss details of the “right sizing” framework adopted at their February meeting during a public forum this evening at the high school auditorium. The special-called meeting starts at 6:30 p.m.

Interim Superintendent Bob Boyd says adjustments are necessary due to declining enrollment and drastic cuts in state funding. He told the school board the number of students at N.J.-S.P. has decreased by a third over the past decade and is not expected to rebound. Continue reading

N.J.-S.P. Board to Consider “Right Sizing”

NJ-SP School Board 2015-2016The North Judson-San Pierre School Board will consider framework for “right sizing” the corporation when they meet this evening. That’s according to the advance agenda for their 7 p.m. meeting at the corporation office. Enrollment at N.J.-S.P. has declined significantly over the past decade. So have state funds allocated to rural school districts. Voters who live within the North Judson-San Pierre School Corporation overwhelmingly rejected a general fund referendum last fall. N.J.-S.P. Prepares to Close 2015 Books

NJ-SP School Board 2015-2016The agenda for tonight’s North Judson-San Pierre School Board meeting includes passage of the necessary resolution to move money around to close the books on the fiscal year budget. Superintendent Lynn Johnson previously said at least $1 million in cuts would be necessary to end the year in the black. The source of those cuts is unclear at this time. Continue reading

We received this response from them this morning and agreed to publish it in its entirety on our website. Starke County Farm Bureau Awards Funds to N.J.-S.P. FFA

FFA Check Presentation GroupNorth Judson-San Pierre Future Farmers of America members will be headed to Louisville, Ky. next month for the organization’s national convention. Their trip is made possible in part by the Starke County Farm Bureau. Representative Tiffany Naigi presented a $700 check to program during Tuesday’s school board meeting. FFA officers also told the school board about last year’s convention. It featured a career and trade show, motivational speakers and leadership development workshops. Continue reading

N.J.-S.P. Board Approves Budget, Teacher Contracts

The $8 million general fund spending plan is down about $2.5 million from just a few years ago due to declining enrollment and changes in the way the state funds schools.
