N.J.-S.P. to Provide Transportation for Migrant Students Attending Summer Program

Helping children of migrant workers access educational opportunities is the goal of a program being offered in North Judson this summer. SEEDS Early Learning, a preschool housed in the former North Judson-San Pierre Middle School, plans to offer a five-week class through the federal Migrant Education Program, according to N.J.-S.P. Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin.

New State Budget Directs Schools to Raise Teacher Pay

Indiana teachers may be getting a pay raise in the coming years. During the Northwest Indiana Forum’s legislative wrap-up last week, Lieutenant Governor Suzanne Crouch highlighted the $1.9 billion earmarked for K-12 education in the new state budget.

More Schools Looking to Go After Income Tax Refunds to Collect Unpaid Debt

The Knox Community School Corporation is the latest local district to decide to go after unpaid debt by intercepting state income tax refunds, while North Judson-San Pierre is considering it. The Knox School Board recently approved a memorandum of understanding for the Tax Refund Exchange and Compliance System (TRECS), according to Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart.
