Officers in the Starke County Traffic Safety Partnership have been conducting impaired driving patrols since Aug. 16 in the state’s Operation Pullover Blitz #76.
Coordinator Dave Combs from the Knox City Police Department said the patrols have been successful.
Officers from the Starke County Traffic Safety Partnership participated in an Operation Pullover effort between March 8 and March 24.
Law enforcement from the Starke County Sheriff’s Department and North Judson, Hamlet and Knox City Police Departments stopped a total of 221 vehicles and issued a total of 74 citations related to aggressive driving. A total of 12 Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated arrests were made and six others were arrested on non-alcohol related charges.
The LaPorte City Police Department completed its two-week Operation Pullover Blitz #74 Sunday.
The target was aggressive and impaired drivers. Officers worked 70.5 hours of impaired driving patrols and 85 hours of aggressive driving patrols. Six misdemeanor arrests and one felony arrest for Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated were made. Six criminal arrests were made including Possession of Marijuana and Possession of a Legend Drug. Police made 234 citations and gave 186 warnings during the blitz.
Operation Pullover is a federally funded enforcement initiative administered by the Traffic Safety Division of the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.
The La Porte City Police Department wrote 144 citations and 109 warnings during the recent Operation Pull Over Blitz #71, which focused on seat belt patrols.
Officers dedicated 35 hours during the day and 34.5 hours at night conducting seat belt patrols. One hundred and fifteen citations were given for seat belt violations, 12 citations were given for child restraint violations, four citations were given for drivers operating a vehicle with a suspended license and two arrests were made for drivers operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
The La Porte Police Department has scheduled 30 hours of seat belt patrols and 25 hours of aggressive driving patrols funded under its Big City/Big County grant for this month. The department will also have impaired driving patrols out on most weekends this month that are funded under La Porte County’s DUI Taskforce Indiana grant.
The recent Operation Pullover Blitz conducted by the LaPorte City Police Department netted 11 alcohol-related arrests, plus other misdemeanor activity.
Agency officers dedicated 140.5 hours of overtime towards Indiana’s annual mobilization against impaired and dangerous driving, 71 hours for impaired driving patrols and 69.5 hours for aggressive driving patrols. One felony and 10 misdemeanor DUI arrests as well as three misdemeanor and two felony criminal arrests for other charges were made during the 17-day effort.
Troopers from the Indiana State Police, Lowell District will be participating in a drunk driving blitz beginning tomorrow.
Through Sunday, March 18th, officers will work overtime to conduct high-visibility enforcement activities designed specifically to identify impaired drivers. You will see an increased number of officers patrolling for aggressive drivers and unrestrained motorists during the 17-day mobilization.
