North Judson officials are working to confirm INDOT’s plans for State Road 10, before replacing the fence around Pioneer Cemetery. Last month, the town council approved a quote for almost $32,000 from White Fencing to replace the current chain link fence, while upgrading the portion along State Road 10 to black aluminum. During Monday’s town council meeting, council member Matt Brewer said White was ready to start installation in a couple weeks.

North Judson Town Council Awards Bid for Cemetery Mowing Contract
T&J Lawn Care, out of Walkerton, will be handling the mowing services for Pioneer and Highland Cemeteries following a decision made by North Judson Town Council members Monday night.
The cemetery mowing contract was initially advertised back in March and individuals had a month to submit bids. The Town Council received and opened two bids last night.
The bid submitted by Tim Rhodes, the owner of T&J Lawn Care Services, was for a total of $12,000. The second bid, submitted by Mike Fanelli came in at $20,995. Continue reading
North Judson Town Council Members Discuss Advertisement for Cemetery Mowing and Additional Duties
North Judson Town Council members considered the advertisement for cemetery mowing when they met Monday night.
Individuals applying for this job would be bidding on lawn care, leaf clean up and debris removal for both Highland and Pioneer Cemeteries. They would be expected to provide all labor, equipment and fuel.
Members noted that the proposed advertisement was the same as last year’s. However, since they experienced some problems with last year’s service, they wanted to avoid any potential confusion by clearly stating what is expected of the bidder. Continue reading

The Town of North Judson is moving ahead with the demolition of a downtown building, but so far no one has expressed interest in doing the work. Town officials decided to tear down the building at 205 and 207 Lane Street after they determined the owners did not make the required repairs to bring the building up to safety standards. North Judson Restores Water to Pioneer Cemetery, Alleys Still in Need of Repair
Efforts to restore North Judson’s Pioneer Cemetery have gotten a bit easier, thanks to some help from the town. Town Superintendent Marshall Horstmann told the town council Monday that town employees had conducted a water tap at the cemetery and installed a yard hydrant with a padlock to limit access. Bluejay Football Team, Volunteers Rebuild Pioneer Cemetery Terrace
Members of the North Judson-San Pierre High School football team got a workout outside of football practice over the weekend, and their efforts will be part of a community legacy. Varsity Head Coach Ted White and his team helped Dr. Dennis Dalphond and other volunteers mix and pour cement for the terraces at the north edge of Pioneer Cemetery, across from North Judson United Methodist Church. White quipped it might be better exercise than the weight lifting the players are doing in the off season. Continue reading
North Judson Physician Spearheads Pioneer Cemetery Project
A local physician and his wife are spearheading efforts to restore a once-proud piece of North Judson’s history to its former glory. Dennis and Margaret Dalphond’s beautification efforts at Pioneer Cemetery on Talmer Avenue behind Norwayne Field are actually a continuation of the family legacy. Norwayne Field was a WPA project during the Great Depression, and Margaret’s grandfather, Joseph Pacilio, Sr., helped to build it. Continue reading

North Judson Awards Cemetery Mowing Bids
The North Judson Town Council has selected a contractor for cemetery lawn mowing. Altman’s Lawn Service was once again awarded the bid during Monday’s town council meeting, for a cost of $12,000 for the year.
