City of Plymouth Under Fire For Allegedly Violating USERRA

A complaint has been filed against the City of Plymouth defending the employment rights of Air Force reservist Robert D. DeLee under the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994.

United States Attorney David Capp says USERRA requires employers to reemploy returning service members to the position they would have held, had their employment not been interrupted by military service. USERRA also requires employers to provide the employee with all benefits of employment they would have been entitled to as well had the employee not been called to active duty.

Two Arrested In Response To Anonymous Tip In Plymouth

The Plymouth Police Department arrested two people after a tip was called into the police department.

On Friday afternoon, a call was received about a strong chemical smell at the Carriage Green Apartments at 1052 Ed Cook Blvd. Three officers approached the complex and one of the suspects reportedly tried climbing a third floor balcony. Upon kicking down the door, police found an active methamphetamine lab along with a two year old child. The two were taken into custody and the child was taken to protective custody and transported to the hospital.

Twenty-four-year-old Jessica Goad and 29-year-old Jason K. Wolff were arrested and they have preliminary charges of Manufacturing and Dealing in Methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a School and Neglect of a Child.

Two Arrested By Plymouth Police This Week

Officers from the Plymouth Police Department were called to The Mayflower on Wednesday after a suspicious vehicle was spotted in the parking lot.

When the officers arrived on scene, two men were in a red pickup truck that reportedly had been parked there for two hours. Upon further investigation, Bryan T. Miller, 30, of Plymouth was arrested on a preliminary charge of Possession of Methamphetamine.

Culver Man Arrested For Being Under the Influence of Drugs

Officers from the Plymouth Police Department arrested a Culver man after he was taken to the hospital for an evaluation.

On Monday, a resident called to report that a suspicious man was staggering in the parking lot at 881 Broadway Street. When officers arrived, they found Dominic Sheets and he was incoherent. He was taken to the Plymouth Police Department to get out of the heat and his condition worsened. EMS was called to the scene and Sheets was transported to the hospital. A drug screening was conducted and it was found that he had several different drugs in his system.

He was arrested on preliminary charges of Public Intoxication with a Controlled Substance in the Body.

Fatal Accident Investigated by Marshall County Police

Officers from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department were called to a fatal accident on 12 B Road east of Olive Trail last night.

Marshall County Coroner Bill Cleavenger said 16-year-old Vincent Cody Poczik of Plymouth and his passenger, 16-year-old Hunter Brandt of Plymouth, died of injuries sustained in the single vehicle accident. Poczik’s vehicle left the road, struck a guardrail and flipped end over end.

Both boys were killed instantly.  The accident remains under investigation.

Toxicology results are pending on both youths.

Knox Woman Arrested For Stealing From Parked Cars

A Knox woman was arrested Wednesday on a charge of theft after an investigation by the Plymouth Police Department.

On Tuesday, June 26, an employee from AutoPark called the Plymouth Police Department to report a customer going through employee cars in the parking lot. Police were told that a video was taken of the suspect entering one car and placing something in her pocket.

Nineteen-year-old Arrested For Theft Of Laptop, Wallet

The Plymouth Police Department on Monday arrested 19-year-old Andrew Benson on charges of Theft, Credit Card Fraud, Forgery, and Resisting Law Enforcement following an investigation into items stolen from a vehicle parked at the Plymouth High School.

Police received a call on June 20 stating that a Dell laptop computer and a wallet containing credit cards and gift cards were stolen from a vehicle parked at the high school, and police soon learned that the cards had been used shortly after they were stolen. Three Plymouth businesses reported the cards were used at their locations.

Plymouth Municipal Airport Changes Course

Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter

Plymouth Municipal Airport had found itself in dismal condition after 30 years of neglect. Run-down and overgrown, the 45-year-old airport hadn’t seen any kind of improvements in the last three decades, but Mayor Mark Senter sought to change that.

Senter was elected in 2008 and immediately took an interest in the airfield. He appointed new members to the Board of Aviation Commissioners, including its new president, Tom Flynn. Flynn explained that everything about the airport had been redone, including a new tile floor, fresh paint, and even a mural by college student Kailee Shearin. Shearin had painted a mural for the lobby in exchange for the promise of an airplane ride.

Plymouth Police Make Several Theft Arrests

A Grovertown woman was arrested Thursday after a shoplifting incident in Plymouth.

Plymouth police were called to Martins Supermarket on a report of theft. During a search of 35-year-old Sara Hopkins, she was found to be in possession of a controlled substance. She was arrested and booked into the Marshall County Jail on preliminary charges of Theft and Possession of a Controlled Substance. She was given a $1,500 bond.

Plymouth Man Arrested Following Hit And Run

A Plymouth man was arrested after an accident Saturday night.

Plymouth police officers responded to a call in the area of Madison and Broadway Streets in Plymouth and spoke to Sara Johnson, 22 of Plymouth, who told police that she had been struck by a vehicle and the vehicle left the scene. She sustained an injury to her right side, but refused medical treatment at the scene.

Police found the vehicle suspected of leaving the scene of an accident on Harrison Street. The driver, Billy Bates, 54 of Plymouth, was arrested on preliminary charges of Criminal Recklessness and Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident.

Three Arrests By Plymouth Police Department

A Plymouth man was arrested Wednesday after Plymouth Police officers were notified of a suspicious man entering a vacant home at 754 Thayer Street. Police arrived on scene to find 40-year-old Ronald D. Obenchern inside one of the bedrooms. After an investigation, Obenchern was arrested on a preliminary charge of Residential Entry.

Two Winamac residents were arrested Tuesday after Plymouth Police officers found them in possession of controlled substances and precursors used in the manufacture of methamphetamine in their vehicle. Ricky Howard, 23, and Kenneth R. Craft, 27, were arrested on preliminary charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance and Illegal Drug Lab.

Plymouth Police Note Increase In Theft Incidents

Theft incidents are on the rise in Plymouth.

The Plymouth Police Department has arrested three different people in a week for theft of items from Walmart. The most recent arrest was Monday, June 11, when Michael Dalton of Plymouth reportedly concealed and failed to pay for lithium batteries. Dalton had paid for Coleman fuel and drain cleaner, but did not pay for the batteries.

Plymouth Man Arrested For Possession Of Methamphetamine Near Public Park

A Plymouth man was arrested Tuesday night after officers from the Plymouth Police Department found him to be in possession of over three grams of methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a public park. Seth Enders, 39, was taken to the Marshall County Jail on preliminary charges of Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Paraphernalia.

This is not his first run-in with the Plymouth Police Department.

Drunk Argos Man Arrested For Residential Entry

An Argos man was arrested Thursday night after he reportedly entered a home without permission.

Plymouth police were called to 907 W. Monroe St. in reference to a suspicious male looking in the windows. When police arrived on scene, Corey A. Loveless was found to have gotten into the home and he was intoxicated.

Police arrested Loveless on preliminary charges of Residential Entry and Public Intoxication. He was taken to the Marshall County Jail.

Three Arrested In Plymouth on Battery Charges

The Plymouth Police Department made three battery-related arrests over the weekend. Jeremy S. Morrison, 21, of Plymouth was arrested the morning of May 27 on preliminary charges of Domestic Battery and Criminal Mischief after an incident at 914 S. Michigan St. He is currently being held in the Marshall County Jail.

Police also arrested 18-year-old Renan A. Hernandez of Plymouth following an incident at 800 Sycamore St. on May 27. He faces a preliminary charge of Battery and is being held in the Marshall County Jail.

Manuel Baca, 29, of Plymouth was also arrested and faces preliminary charges of Domestic Battery and Reporting a Crime. Police were called to 400 South Fifth Street in Plymouth at 11:35 p.m. on May 25, and, following an investigation, arrested Baca and transported him to the Marshall County Jail.

Plymouth Man Arrested For Shoplifting

A Plymouth man was arrested after an alleged shoplifting incident at Walmart on Thursday.

Plymouth police received a theft complaint from Walmart and soon arrived to find 44-year-old Jeffery L. Birk. Police questioned him regarding the reported theft, and after searching the suspect, they found he was in possession of methamphetamine. He was taken to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department on preliminary charges of Theft, Possession of Methamphetamine, and an active civil contempt warrant through Marshall County. He is scheduled to appear in Marshall County Superior Court 1 on June 19 for an initial hearing.

Plymouth Assistant Superintendent Announces Retirement

A 1963 graduate of Knox High School, Dr. Rodger Smith has announced his retirement, effective at the end of the school year at Plymouth. He has been the assistant superintendent of the corporation since 2008. He was superintendent of the John Glenn School Corporation for five years before his employment at Plymouth.

Smith still makes his home in Knox.

PHS Band Members to March In All-State Marching Band and Indy 500 Parade

Plymouth High School Band Members will represent their school at All-State Marching Band and Indy 500

Plymouth High School will be sending six members of the Pride of Plymouth Marching Band to march in the Indiana All-State Marching Band at the Indianapolis 500 Festival Parade on tomorrow.

Students from high school band programs throughout Indiana are selected for this event based on teacher recommendation and student applications. Plymouth has one of the largest numbers of students involved in the band. Students will spend Friday rehearsing on the Butler University campus and then perform in the Festival 500 Parade in downtown Indianapolis on Saturday morning.

Yellow River Festival Planned For June 2

Yellow River Festival Committee members

The Yellow River Festival in Plymouth is scheduled for Saturday, June 2 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET in the River Park Square on LaPorte Street.

This festival celebrates the first 30 years of Marshall County from 1834 to 1864, as well as the significance of the Yellow River in the community. Johnny Appleseed will be present during the festival, as well as more re-enacters who dress in 1800s-style clothing and will explain artifacts. Non-profit food vendors will prepare treats during the event and many will be prepared over an open fire.
