Purdue Extension to Host Local Government Finance Workshop

The Purdue Extension Community Development Program is hosting a local government finance workshop for economic development professionals, community leaders and  local elected and appointed officials.

The workshop will be held at the Plymouth Public Library from 1p.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Friday, December 15th. It is geared toward community members from a number of counties including Marshall, Pulaski and Starke.

The program will dig deeper into data from our counties and the region in general. Presenters will also highlight how Indiana’s property tax system functions and provide information about how tax caps work. Continue reading

Dogs at the Library Program Scheduled in Plymouth

dogs at the libraryThe Plymouth Public Library is sponsoring a special program for children on Tuesday, Jan. 13.

The “Dogs at the Library” program is planned where children can read books to dogs. The members of the Marshall County 4-H Dog Club will have their dogs at the library for this event. The gentle, trained dogs will sit and listen to any story that a child would like to read aloud.

Parents can take pictures during the event and children of all ages are welcome to attend.

The “Dogs at the Library” event begins at 6:30 p.m. ET in the children’s room at the Plymouth Public Library. It will last about an hour. This program is available again on Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 6:30 p.m. ET. For more information, call (574) 936-2324.

Plymouth Public Library Celebrates Century Mark

  
 
The Plymouth Public Library is celebrating 100 years tomorrow with a free community event. Stop by between 1 and 4 p.m. EDT for food, entertainment and library history. The festivities will start with a silent movie that would have played at Plymouth’s first movie theater. It will be shown again at 3:15 Sunday afternoon. A juggling demonstration will take place between screenings, and historian Kurt Garner will give a presentation at 2:30 p.m. in the Fireplace Room. The original Plymouth Public Library was one of 2,500 built by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie in small towns across the country.

Plymouth Public Library Offers “Cans for Fines” Program

  
 

Next week is National Library Week, and in light of that, the Plymouth Public Library is once again allowing patrons to donate canned goods to pay off late return penalties – an event they hold each year, typically bringing in several grocery carts full of food to donate to the Marshall County Neighborhood Center. Neighborhood Center Director Sara Hill said the drive is taking place at a great time, too, as food donations tend to slow down during the summer months.
