Pulaski County Fair Still Set For Fairgrounds in Spite of Rain

The Pulaski County Fair is set to go on as scheduled at the fairgrounds at the back of the Winamac Town Park. Natalie Federer with Purdue Extension Pulaski County says they’re keeping an eye on the Tippecanoe as areas upriver got significant amounts of rainfall yesterday. All of the projects are in place and will be moved to safety if water levels start to rise. The fair starts this weekend, and Federer says fairgoers should be cautious about parking so they don’t get stuck in the mud. Also as a precaution no livestock trailers will be left at the fairgrounds. Tomorrow night’s tractor pull has been postponed and will be rescheduled sometime this fall. Purdue Extension and fair board officials are working closely with the town of Winamac to ensure everyone’s safety, but as of right now everything else will go on at the fairgrounds as scheduled.

Pulaski County Fairgrounds Will Be Ready for Upcoming Fair

The Pulaski County Fairgrounds will be ready for the upcoming 4-H Fair. It officially gets under way Saturday, June 29 and continues through July 5. The fairgrounds is located at the back of the Winamac Town Park, which was flooded when recent rains forced the Tippecanoe River from its banks.

Natalie Federer with Purdue Extension Pulaski County says fair board members are busy cleaning up. “Some of the water has receded. It’s still kind of wet down there, but the water is out of the buildings. We’re going to be working very hard in the next couple of days to get the buildings cleaned out again and pressure washed and sanitized, but we are on schedule again, and the fair will be down at the fairgrounds.”

The Pulaski County 4-H and Community Fair may have to be relocated due to the recent rains and consequent flooding. County Purdue Extension Director Natalie Daily-Federer told WKVI that fair officials are currently coming up with possible alternatives for locations to perform the animal shows and conduct judging on projects, but they haven’t come up with anything solid yet as they hope for fair weather to dry the fairgrounds.

“Hopefully, the fairgrounds will dry out the following week and we’ll be able to move everything back down and still host a fair there, but we are also looking into other facilities for livestock shows and our dogs show is the week before as well. So, lots of research, lots of conversations happening. We’re looking into lots of different options and trying to put together a backup plan,” said Federer.
