Pulaski County Republicans have a vacancy to fill, following the death of County Clerk Christi Hoffa. Hoffa passed away Tuesday night on her 38th birthday, after a battle with leukemia.

New Filings for Municipal Election
The clerk’s offices in Starke County and Marshall County were busy tending to more candidates who wish to file for office for this year’s Municipal Election.
In Starke County, Republican Anthony Radkiewicz filed for Knox City Council District 4 while Democrat Tim Manns filed for Knox City Council District 4. Republican Wendy Hoppe filed for another term on the North Judson Town Council in Ward 2, and Democrat Tamara Brantley is seeking a seat on the Hamlet Town Council. Republican Charles Hasnerl is seeking another term as Knox City Court Judge.
Not All November Ballot Vacancies Filled
All positions on the November General Election ballot in Starke County have not been filled, but according to Clerk Evelyn Skronski, the county party chairmen have until Thursday, July 3 at noon to certify the new filings.
Skronski said a full list of candidates could be produced on Tuesday, July 8.
Candidates Needed to Fill Spots on General Election Ballot
There are still a few positions left open on the November election ballot in Pulaski County that need to be filled by Monday, June 30.
Clerk Tasha Foerg said there are vacancies in several advisory board positions as well as township trustee positions on both the Republican and Democrat tickets. She added that vacancies on the Republican ticket include surveyor and county council district 2. On the Democrat ticket, there are openings for assessor, clerk, coroner, county council district 4, and prosecutor.
Candidate Filings for 2014 Election to Begin Soon
It won’t be long now and those choosing to run for office will be lining up at the county clerk’s office to file intentions to run for office.
Starke County Clerk Evelyn Skronski said the first day to file for candidacy is Jan. 8, 2014. Several offices are up for election this year in Starke County including prosecutor, auditor, sheriff, coroner, clerk, assessor, county commissioner district 2, county council districts 1-4, and Center Township assessor. The at-large and North Bend Township seats on the Culver Community School Board are open, as well as the California Township, Washington Township and Center Township Seat 1 on the Knox Community School Board and the District 1-3 seats on the Oregon-Davis School Board.
Absentee Ballot Count Higher Than Expected In Starke, Pulaski Counties
The amount of absentee ballots already cast indicates voters are showing an interest in the Presidential, U.S. Senate and Gubernatorial races.
Starke County Clerk Evelyn Skronski said over 150 absentee ballots have already been filed and that form of voting has only been available since Monday! With the federal races, Skronski noted that the local races, especially the school board races, have generated a lot of interest in this General Election. She added that many voters in the North Judson area are paying particular attention to the referendum question that asks if the North Judson Town Council should expand to five members from three members.
Voter Registration Deadline Is Tomorrow; Absentee Voting Begins Today

You can register by going online to www.IndianaVoters.com or by visiting your county clerk’s office. If you do not register to vote, you cannot cast a ballot in this important presidential election. You have until 4 p.m. tomorrow to register, and many government offices may be closed due to the Columbus Day holiday today.
Absentee Voting Dates Released For Pulaski County
Pulaski County Clerk Tasha Foerg has released absentee voting information for the General Election.
In-office absentee voting will be Oct. 8 through Nov. 5, Monday through Friday, from 8:30–11:30 a.m. and 12:30–3:30 p.m. ET in the Pulaski County Courthouse. One Saturday has been set aside for in-office absentee voting for Saturday, Nov. 3 from 8 a.m. to noon ET in the courthouse. Another date may be added to that schedule at the end of October.

Absentee Voting Count low in Pulaski County
Absentee voting in Pulaski County is slow but it is available to you if you need to utilize that way of voting.
Clerk Tasha Foerg told WKVI that about 12 people have voted absentee so far. Only a handful of contested races will appear on the ballot. Those races include the Winamac Clerk-Treasurer, Francesville Clerk-Treasurer, and Town Council races in Francesville and Medaryville.
Unopposed Candidates to Remain off November Ballots in Starke, Pulaski Counties
There are some counties in the state that are considering putting all candidates on the November Municipal Election ballot, although state law only allows contested races on the ballot.
Starke County Clerk Evelyn Skronski and Pulaski County Clerk Tasha Foerg told WKVI that only contested races will appear on the Municipal election ballots. Skronski indicated that legislators may reverse this decision for future Municipal elections with the confusion it may cause voters. The Starke County Election Board voted to follow the state statute to only allow contested races. The Pulaski County Clerk said she is also following state statute.
Pulaki County Clerk Receives New Election Filings
Pulaski County Clerk, Tasha Foerg, has received filings for the fall election in her office.
Two candidates will be vying for Winamac Town Clerk-Treasurer. Republicans Melanie Parish-Berger and Christina Hoffa have both filed. One candidate has filed for the Winamac Town Board and that is Republican John Richard Denney.
Democrat Linda McCune filed for Monterey Clerk-Treasurer and Democrat Christine M. Fox filed for a seat on the Monterey Town Board.
